Not really. Everyone I knew (and me also) was unaware of the manga until the anime was running. The anime was definitely what was better known on release. And I'm usually much more aware of what is happening on the manga side than anime side.

I just finished Samurai Champloo , and I gave it 4/5 stars . I had this one stalled for a good year or so because I just wasn't liking the middle portion. I felt it dragged on a lot of random episodic bits that I just wasn't all that interested in. However, a good majority of the series was good in it's own way. I have hardly watched any anime movies. Not including franchise movies, two, Sky Crawlers and Summer Wars, and I enjoyed Summer Wars a hell of a lot more. I don't own a television aerial. It's been a while since I watched Death Note, but I seem to recall Light's dad being reluctant to let Light know anything about the case, but later, after Light took an interest he relented. Earlier this week I read about a new PSP pack coming out in Japan with an Anime theme... it has a picture of some girl called Haruhi and came with some accessories and stuff.
Although I didn't have a clue who this Anime character was I figured if they are making a PSP bundle out of it - it must be popular.
