The 5870 is currently THE fastest DX11 video card available so it wasn't a mistake unless you play games at 1024x768 lol

Your CPU is fine. A 5850 would be a fantastic choice, and to be honest a 5770 would be perfectly good as well

Good news for laptop gamers, though I personally don't think a
gaming PC is worth it if you can't upgrade it. Still, increased performance is always a good thing.

memory serves me right...
GTS240 = 9800GT = 8800GT
However, the GTS240 is meant for the OEM market (again, AFAIK), so I think you'll be hard pressed to find any of them available for purchase without a whole computer. There are a few low profile 9800GTs though, I'm pretty sure that's the fastest low-profile card you can get. So you might want to look for one.

Isn't the resolution 1366x 720 or something like that? I think 1280x720 is too big. My 37"
Vizio Tv is 1366x768 for 720p.
Set it at 1366x768 . Do you have the latest drivers?

With only ~$20 difference I would take the 5770.
-Lower
power consumption
-Better driver support going forward
-DX11 for longer useful lifespan
