For any books you bought from Amazon, you can go to your account there and redownload them. For books that you bought elsewhere, if you didn't save them on your computer, you will have to go back to those sites and download them again to your computer and use the USB cord to put them on your new Kindle. Like Amazon, places like Fictionwise and Webscriptions hold your purchases for you and you can download them again.

From Kindle Manual, version 4: BACKGROUND MUSIC If you like to listen to music while you use your Kindle, use your computer to transfer MP3 files to the "music" folder on your Kindle. When you select "Play MP3" from the Experimental page, each of the songs will play in the order they were added to your Kindle. (From the Home page, press Menu and then select experimental. If you have real mp3 files in the...

Well, Twenty, since I'm the one who said that, (and thanks for taking it out of TOTAL context, that was NOT the ONLY reason I purchased hardbacks), I can assure you, I'm not a troll. I've been on this thing since June. What is your point, really?

I'm glad you asking the questions, horsegoalie! 1. You really can't run out of memory, since you don't need to keep the books on your device. If you get the books from the Kindle store, Amazon stores them for you. If you got them other places, you can store them yourself: your Kindle connects easily to a computer using an included USB cord, and from there, you can put them on an SD card, jump drive, whatever. The memory...

It is unlikely that you'll be able to connect to a Whispernet while on a cruise or in Turkey. Turkey is not a Kindle country and the Whispernets are basically cellular networks that have AT&T roaming contracts. You can reach the US Kindle Store by using a computer with internet access. There is no additional charge for transferring via USB and computer. If you do manage to connect to a Whispernet with the experimental browser, there...

I'm not on Windows 7, I have Vista but I have a folder under "Documents" called "My Kindle Content"; interestingly it contains only PRC and MBP files. I copied a PRC file that I had elsewhere and it appeared immediately in the KFPC Home page and opened just fine.

I think you will have to be more specific. Usually, Amazon sends them pre-registered. If not, you go to the MANAGE YOUR KINDLE page here and type in the serial number from the back of the Kindle. It's hard to see how that could go wrong. What is happening?

Matthew, the Kindle knows where you are located because of your information you supply Amazon with in your account. Unless you lie or set up a US based payment system and buy inside the US, you'll incur the fees. The browser, as far as I understand, doesn't work for anyone outside the US, but I could be wrong. You'd have to try it and see for yourself.

It's because J.K. Rowling has refused to allow her novels to be released in digital form. Sorry, but you're not going to find legal copies of her work in ebook format anywhere.

Speech over, IP? "Let me begin by saying I understand the basic appeal of having an entire library in one device. I get that." No. You manifestly don't. Not an entire library in one device . . . an entire library in your pocket. YOUR entire library, the books you like, and only those. It's not only a liberating prospect, it's an inspiring one. Here's the proof you don't get it: ...

One the one hand, this is something that publishers fear. Their business model is to make enough money off the major authors to cover all their other authors. It's a poor business model, but that is what they have. From the author's POV though, it's more difficult since they would need to format their new books for not only the Kindle, but several other formats for other readers. So I ...

For me, it wasn't so much cost as convenience, but a good argument can be made for cost too. It includes the equivalent of a lifetime 3G cellular data plan. That's ~$70 per month right there. It saves you on almost every book you buy, and on best sellers it saves you a lot. It also frees up storage space that would have to go to books. But don't underestimate how much it changes the ...

I will write a 'blurb' about a book that's available on the Kindle, but without giving away too much information. The next poster should guess the title by putting in the link to the Kindle version of the book. Then, post a blurb for a different book. For instance: If I posted, "A superflu destroys most of humanity leaving a few survivors to battle evil." The next poster would post, The...

There's been a number of threads on this topic already. It's pretty clear the publishers don't want Amazon to have pricing power and they are doing what they can to mitigate things. From the publisher viewpoint, they don't want people used to 9.99 prices--and they figure that the ebook market is only 5 percent of the booksales. Of course...it's a *growing* 5 percent, but they ...

I was playing with a Nook at B&N and had no trouble pushing the buttons - it was one of the features I liked. The time it takes processing anything is ridiculous - I could fall asleep before it gets thru formatting. Sure needs a software update!
