Swarfmaker, Thanks for your post. You raise some interesting questions. Hopefully JAB, Dr.Newport or someone else will chime in. I actually bought a bottle of D-Ribose. I haven't used it, I like it more for it's effect on the CHF for my Grandma. I read a lot on Dr.Sinatra's website. He seems to know his stuff. One thing that just makes me a little leery is that he's selling things on his website. It's not illegal, but...

quote: D-Ribosylated Tau forms globular aggregates with high cytotoxicity. Chen L, Wei Y, Wang X, He R. I was able to get the full text of the article from my school's library (it helps that the university has a medical school). No, I don't understand most of it. But I keep trying to educate myself on the terms I don't understand. Wikipedia is a great help. Even if it sometimes has errors, it provides a good starting point. An...

...and then there's this one: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17320217 "...Adherence to healthful lifestyle has been shown to be associated with reductions in the rates of coronary disease, diabetes in women, and mortality in elderly. Patients with major lifestyle problems enrolled in recent statin trials were given only drugs, and no statin has ever been compared with a nonatherogenic lifestyle and shown to be superior or...

Felicia I'm so sorry for your loss. I just read about it today. I didn't realize that your mother was so ill. I wish you and your family the best and you should always be proud that you fought to the very end for your mom. She was very lucky to have you for a daughter. I wish you peace and good memories.

Jellybeans, After my long dissertation on Drug Companies, I saw this from you! My point exactly...can we believe anything they tell us? Manipulating the outcomes...any way they want them to be. Now you know why I'm skeptical. Google Mylan Labs and you'll see some very interesting articles regarding their Labs. Drugs are BIG business! I'm not against all of them by any means, but I'm very skeptical of anything crossing the...

Jellybeans - be sure to look up the possible side effects of the doxycycline so you know what you may possibly expect. They're kind of scary. You may also want to read up on some patient testimonials as well. I believe it's a pretty strong drug - used for lyme disease.

I agree, AKS. My DH has been on Dimebon for about 2 months. I haven't seen much change but we're hoping that the progression will stop. If that is all we get at least that will be better than doing nothing.

dear marineia, did your mom do a MRI test? thats one of the test our doctor ordered incl a thyroid gland test. the MRI showed brain atrophy and further research on the changes on her behavior led the dr to say its FTD. FTD or AD can only accurately determined by biopsy which is not recommended. the treatment dr t gave marisa is 1 perispinal shot, we came back after a month and she did not seem to need another one. dr t says on FTD cases, the...

My mom, "Wonderful Rose" as my Dad kept saying, passed away this morning (Thursday Dec 10)at 11:07 am. My Dad was with her holding her hand. He walked into the living room to find me and said "I think she stopped breathing". I went to her and watched...it all seemed surreal. Luckily my two oldest boys, Robert and James were home today when this happened, and they both came downstairs to comfort my Dad and I. She never...

I came back to the board here after a long absence to make sure this information was available. It sounds extremely positive. I think I will begin searching for doctors who will consider this treatment for my mother. Brenham, TX

Pati---I don't have any medical background... so...I won't begin to attempt to reassure you. What I will do is suggest that you read page 8 of the Dimebon thread (specifically JAB's Oct 5, 9:17 AM post). Hopefully, she will find the time to share her current thoughts. Forget to say...I'm not worried about something that scientists apparently cannot figure out the implications of (amyloid ...

Hi, I'd like to hear from anyone who has been trying curcumin/tumeric extract for treatment of AD, and if you've noticed any results. My dad has AD. He was first diagnosed in 2002, but definitely was showing signs by 2001. He is now 74. Having read in the news about the tremendous promise of curcumin (below are a couple of links), we began giving him one 500mg capsule a day about 13 months ...

I didn't notice an increase after using the oils or the cinnamon. My lady had a good appetite when she started both of these, so that may have impacted any increase she might have had.
