Alan, When I gratuated from medical school,I completed a rotating internship for one year and then began my own practice in family mwdicine in a small town in Ontario, Canada. Prior to entering this General Practice I did a few months of training in anesthesia. Because there are no nurse anesthetists in Canada, some physicians do limited training and administer anesthesia in small community hospitals. The other 2 physicians at the hospital in...

Dear Tom, Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. I will try harder because what you said makes sense. I'm sure I won't always be successful but I can make a honest effort to make things better. I think I've been rather depressed lately and this has added to my hard times. Yes, I do take meds but I was forced, because of financial reasons, to give up a drug that was working to change to an older generic drug. I sometimes feel...

To Franco and gyr: When I started Exelon patch I had a huge decline in appetite, similar to using a diet pill, for about a week. Unfortunately, that particular side effect did not last. Both Exelon and Aricept can cause decreased eating and weight loss in the frail patients. I change my Exelon patch and take Namenda in the morning because I had bad insomnia with them both. Iris L.

To Iris: I appreciate the information. I normally change my patch in the morning and take my other meds at night. I'll probably start out taking the Namenda at night otherwise, I'll forget to take it at all. If I have problems sleeping, I'll take it when I change the patch. Thank you so much for the info!

quote: I am aware that AD is a disease without a cure and ultimately could lead to my demise. BUT I may very well die from some other disease or accident many years before I succume to AD. I am also aware of many diseases more devastating than Alzheimer's and therefore this can make make AD a desirable option. Ah, reading those words makes me grin. A couple of my helping professionals just focus on my brain stuff, and they call it...

Thanks Alan, Iris and JAB! Very informative stuff here. My Mother is 67 and has yet to be diagnosed with AD, but has been diagnosed with dementia. We will be going to a different Neuro in January for further help. Her first Neuro was pretty rude about everything, mocked the coconut oil supplementaion...laughed, "and she's still not significantly improved yet?!?" I have the MRI Radiology report, but it's difficult for me to...

Hi all... Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I take 10 mg Namenda in the morning and other 10 mg at night. The Aricept I take after lunch, along with a magnesium supplement that helps with the muscle cramps. Cindy

Hi Everyone How's everyone doing? Been a while since posting. I've been sundowning quite a bit lately and virtually have no concentration. I had another MRI today due to headaches and balance. Of late, I've been having problems with moving my right leg. The doctor tends to think the hippocampus is being affected. There are no classes here in WV for "patients" only "caregivers". So, I visit and chat with my...

Hi, all. I have moderate stage early onset and am taking Aricept and Namenda. Am wondering if anyone has noticed an improvement after coming off Namenda. Trying to get an idea how well or if it works as described. You can email me at ctunstall@aol.com

Hi Tom K., and welcome to the community. I see that you've responded in an existing conversation, and you've started your own thread. You, sir, have already gotten off to a great start! Is there something else in particular you'd like to know? Otherwise, you might consider going ahead with getting acquainted, e.g. tell us more about yourself? Hopefully Tom will be by soon.

I thought that the patient chat room was ours. Have visited it often but never find anyone there. Would love to chat. Am unsure what a thread is. I often think I am hanging by a thread. Have been on a caregivers chat room and it really moved too fast for me to keep up. Enjoyed their perspective - caused me to rember when I was a caregiver. Great since of humor. Patients unite. Go on our ...

Sven, Glad to hear things are going pretty well. Glad the guns are gone too! With dementia you just don't know what can happen. And, mix dementia and alcohol and watch out -- anything is possible! Enjoy your peace, Sven. You deserve it! Take care!

Rkg, I'm 54, score Stage 4 on the Alzheimer's 7 stage thing. I've developed sleep problems early. About a year & a half ago, insomnia started gradually and kept building till it was a major problem. Poor sleep also made many other of my AD features worse. In my case, all symptoms considered, I was put on Seroquel, and I currently take the maximum dose of that. I also use medicinal ...

OK Mike, let's talk about it. You can judge the priorities of a person, and even a country, by how the money is spent. The USA is the only first-world country without universal health care. However, we do spend more on our military than all the other countries in the world combined. I don't see us as financially capable of maintaining our current obligations, without tax increases to pay ...

Lynn I relate to what you are saying. My daughter who is to be my " care taker" is in denial. So I have decided when she takes me to Dr's appts., I (& the doc) force her to converse with me. This way she hears what I hear and has an explanation of why....I'll let you know how it works out. If I remember..... I "mourned" my job and my life. They were who I WAS....now, I'm past the loss. I too ...
