I would start by talking to her doctor. But it can be tremendously useful to talk with the primary nurse caring for her. You can also ask to speak to the social worker on the service. All these professionals make up the team for your mother. From there, the decision to add other specialists follows (such as the palliative care service , chaplaincy, nutritional services) please keep us posted take care

Gemzar as Single Agent??
Published (2009-12-05 07:43:55)
Thank you for you response on single agent Gemzar. Another option that has been presented to me by an Oncological Surgeon who specializes in Liver Mets is to istall  Chemo beads directly into the artery that is feeding this liver surface tumor - after a dye study deterines how it is fed. The only type of chemo beads mentioned were Andriamycin. Since Adriamycin is the partent drug of Doxil and Doxil is keeping things stabile...

Today we met with my Moms doctors and they are recommending Alimta which she is due to start next week.   Any stats on how well this drug works?  Have you treated anyone with this drug for ovca? I know its pretty new for ovca. Also, when or if this drug stops working what would you recommend as the next course of treatment?  I know we are running out of options and its tearing me apart....

Recurrance of ovarian cancer
Published (2009-12-09 16:29:00)
My wife has a recurrance of cancer just 5 months after finishing the typical taxol chemo rounds (6). Our doctor says she must me platinum resistant and that he can treat her for some time, with good quality of life. She has had the weekly topotecan chemo (5 times now), but she is still developing fluid in the abdominal area. Will this fluid leave anytime soon? Any suggestions?

What's most important is that you find out what the problem is so that it can be treated. Even if your current doctor is very good, he is only human and every human makes mistakes. If he hasn't been able to find the problem it's not only OK, but it's important that you get a second opinion! It's a good idea to see a gyn - I wouldn't worry too much about ovarian cancer (that is ...

Dear Ty, You have some sort of growths on your ovaries The possibilities range from fibroids benign cysts endometriomas benign tumors borderline tumors cancer cancer is the least likely the next step is surgical removal. Hi There The value of the CA 125 is not absolute but relative. So it is less important that it is 2150 but how different is that from what it was before. The other thing to know is that when the CA 125 is in the thousands, variations of a few hundred are not significant. so 2000 is not very different from 2500 even though the values of 20 and 500 are quite different. that is ...

Hi There your Mother is in good hands with Prof Kaye. I commonly give chemo breaks as well. It can really help rejuvenate the bone marrow and dispel fatigue. I would say that it sounds like your mother will probably have some growth of her cancer in the next few months. Dear Kaye, thank you for your complet information! You are very smart and your approach is wise. Getting all your records and making a timeline is very helpful to the next doctoir you will see. Hi There, there is no wrong answer. However, I would lean towards what your gyn onc suggests. a 2.5 cm mass on the sidewall may not be easily seen by laparoscopy. On the left side, commonly the sigmoid colon is in the way and it may require a fair bit of surgical dissection to get down there. 2.5 cm is pretty small do you have any old CT scans for comparison? if so, it...

Hi There, It sounds like you are getting a good evaluation. Of course, I know you are worrying that you have an ovarian cancer. Ultimately the only way to make that diagnosis is to surgical remove that ovarian mass. You are not at higher risk for ovarian cancer based on your history of cervical cancer and the benign thyroid tumor. In fact, hysterectomy reduces the risk of ...
