Dear Edna51, It is difficult to comment on why a doctor stated that you will not be able to wear a contact lens. I would recommend that you ask your eyeMD further questions. One of the unknown issues is what type of vision will return following the retinal procedures that you have had. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S. Actually, I thought that you have better vision than I would have expected after having all these problems, especially traumatic mydriasis, retinal detachment, extreme glaucoma, silicone eye and several years of multiple surgeries. You don't see well because your retinal nerve fibers, photoreceptors, and optic nerve are damaged to some degree and you probably have some macular pucker and maybe even chronic macular...

No MD can tell exactly what will happen in the future. All we can say is what usually happens. Usually an eye with your problems does not make a full recovery to normal vision. You can hope. You can pray. time will tell. Discuss with your surgeons JCH MD

I had strab surgery in one eye with adjustable sutures as a middle-aged adult. There was no pain involved at all. I had surgery in the morning and went shopping at the mall that afternoon, wearing sunglasses to cover a red eye. (No, I didn't drive there, but I was able to drive the next day.) I did use some kind of drops or ointment for a week or two. Your doctor will give ...

If you have a retinal Fluorescein angiography Retinal artery occlusion Retinal detachment Retinal detachment repair Retinal dye injection detachment involving the macula, the symptoms would be flashes, floaters, a curtain of vision loss coming down and then severe loss of vision. If the macula is involved, the vision is usually quite poor.

If it only occurs when you bicycle then stop bicycling and take up some other sport. Assuming you wear goggles to protect your cornea from the wind drying them out I don't think of anything else you can do.
Besides riding a bicylcle with blurred vision is asking for a wreck.

There are a number of things that can cause "swollen optic nerves": papilledema, optic neuritis, very low IOP, pseudopapilledma due to thing like optic nerve drusen, pseudo-tumor cerebri. Most are quite serious. You will need to get information from your physicians. Write down your questions and ask the Eye MD managing your case.
