Betta Fish Lost Color
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
QUESTION: My betta is normally a variety of really bright colors. Lately he has been going in and out of being really pale. He's hasn't been as bright as he's supposed to be in about the last two weeks. I've been changing his water more frequently hoping to clear up the problem. I'm adding a little bit of aquarium salt, and using water conditioner. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm only...

Oscar fish
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
can i keep two rb piranhas and two oscar fish in a 100 gallon tank? Answer Hi Justin,  Not for long!  If the piranhas are small, the oscars will eat them. If the piranhas are large, they will attack the oscars.  Either way, it won't end well.  It is just a matter of when something will die, not if. -- Ron   rcoleman@cichlidresearch.com   Cichlid Research Home Page...

oscars

I was curious about what size tank I would need to raise two oscaes. Answer Hi Shawn, The minimum size tank for two Oscars would be 75 gallons. However, Oscars are notoriously messy fish, turning up the substrate in their hunt for food thus they need religious water changes to keep the tank from becoming toxic. Water parameters tend to be more stable in a larger tank, so I'd say look for a 125 or bigger. Many Thanks Tom

Hi, I have a 5 foot tank of african cichlids, mostly malawi (electric yellow/mpanga/lombardoi) also a pair of red forest jewels, 3 red empress, a bala shark and 3 little bristlenose. My question concerns my Red Empress female, who died suddenly tonight. I had noticed yesterday and today she was not eating, and was not as active as she usually is. The Red Empress male has been courting her with...
