bed bugs
Published (2009-11-29 00:00:00)
About 6 weeks ago I woke up with some bug bites and freaked out thinking I had bed bugs.  I read online about them a great deal in the days following the bites but then discovered that I had fleas in my apartment and thought the bites must have been from that.  The fleas disappeared on their own as did the bites.  However, a couple days ago I found a speck of blood on my pillow (which I understand can be a sign of...

QUESTION: Hi Jack I hope that you can help me. I have feeder mice to feed to my snakes. My little daughter likes to feed and water them and play with them a little bit daily. About 10 days ago she had red dots all over her. I thought it was chicken pox but then after a couple of days I also had the dots and I had chicken pox before. about 4 days ago I found a tiny creature on my leg. I took it into the university and they diagnosed it as a...

Hello, I'm looking for an entomologist to help with a new show for Discovery. If you’re interested, would you please send your CV? Regards, David PS. I will *not* be sending you blurry camera phone photos of bugs to I.D. Answer Hello, David - I am flattered at your offer, but I would like more details as to what would be expected of the selected entomologist. I am unsure as how to attach a file to this reply; you may contact me directly...

please, i think phasmids are so cute!! I live in the north bay area in California and can't ever find them. I look all in low trees and bushes in the woods and public park but I've never even found one. Do they even live here? Where am I likely to find one? Answer Hi Bambi; They certainly hard to find but they are there. You just have to look very carefully for movement. A lot of people keep them a pets and you can buy them on the...

flat round tiny bug
Published (2009-12-01 00:00:00)
Hi, I am in Hesperia, CA (high desert/Mojave). Last night, on top of our bed's comforter I noticed a black dot moving. Upon closer observation, I saw it was a tiny, round, flat bug with a few yellow-ish dots around the outer edge of its body. I'm sure it had a head, but I couldn't really see that, or it's legs (it was small & me, without my magnifying glass!). I don't have a photo, but I did my best to make a...

grasshoppers?
Published (2009-11-22 00:00:00)
My husband and I just recently bought an old house that has been empty for 2 years.  We have had a problem with these little grasshopper looking bugs all over our home. They are about an inch in size (full grown) and they jump really high.  And the worst part about them is that we noticed a little stinger looking thing in the back of it!  We have dogs and we are just a little nervous because they are everywhere!...

I live in Fort Wayne Indiana and have never seen what I am about to explain before.  I have lived in this area for the past thirteen years and in my current house for the past four years.  A couple of days ago I noticed a lot of little what looked like worms all over the exterior of the house and on the sidewalk and driveway.  After examining them a little closer I noticed that they have a bunch of little legs they...
