x-rays
Published (2009-11-24 00:00:00)
Hi Dr. Teig, I contacted you a few days ago, and I forgot to ask you this. I wanted to know that when a dental office prints out digital x-rays on paper, do the x-rays look exactly like the regular film strips, or is it a lot clearer and bigger and show the problem where film strips cannot? Digital x-rays show I have a cavity while the film strips do not. If I'm going to pay for digital x-rays to be printed but yet looks like the film...

questions about week-old root canal
Published (2009-11-22 00:00:00)
Hi, and thank you for taking the time to read my questions. On 11/10/09 I had a root canal done on #13, and haven't had any problems with it. On 11/16/09, I had a root canal done on #14, and have had pressure-related pain with it since the novocaine wore off. I'm fine 95% of the time, but if I press on the tooth, even biting a wet noodle, there is a severe, acute pain that subsides as soon as I release the pressure. There is no cold...

Palatal Expander
Published (2009-11-24 00:00:00)
Our pediatric dentist recommended a palatal expander for our daughter (age 6), who has a crossbite. She has been very upset and balking at the idea.  We got a 2nd and 3rd opinion with orthodontists, who all agree that she will need an expander, but they gave me conflicting advice about timing. The first orthodontist recommend waiting 6 months to a couple of years as he said that there may be disadvantages to putting in an expander too...

dental x-rays
Published (2009-11-24 00:00:00)
Dr. Kaufman: I just came back from the dentist today. I took some digital x-rays and they apparently found a cavity on one of my teeth. So with that said, I took another set of x-rays a few months ago, but they were not digital. That set particularly did not detect anything wrong. Yet, this digital set does. My dentist said it's a cavity developing. My question is this...if a cavity is small enough to be detected on digital yet cannot be...

dental x-rays
Published (2009-11-24 00:00:00)
I have a quick question in regards to digital x-rays. When digital x-rays are usually printed, are they really clear and show irregularities, meaning do dentists or technicians usually zoom in to it and then print it out, or when printed, does it look exactly like the film strips? The reason I ask is because one dentist detected a problem with the digital x-rays, but another one found nothing wrong with the traditional film strips. I'm...
