inovation c braces
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
What do you think about innovation c braces? Apparently they accelerate the treatment is that true? and are they reliable? Answer The manufacturer claims that these brackets result in faster treatment and fewer visits. I'm not convinced that those claims are true and reliable. There are many factors that determine the rate of tooth movement so it is very difficult if not impossible to design and conduct a study that...

floss stuck under onlay bridge
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
I have a gold onlay bridge from #18 -20, the pontic is #19. While flossing on this quadrant of the mouth I accidentally got floss stuck under the #18 onlay. I removed some of the floss with a tweezers, put some remains. Any suggestions on how to remove the remainder? Will it come out by itself? Also by having floss get stuck in, is this a sign I need to have the bridge recemented or even get a new bridge? Answer sometimes floss shreads and...

Repair chipped porcelain crown
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
Hi, I have extensive porcelain bridge due to partial anodontia. I've recently acquired a new set and was disappointed because in a span of less than a year, it already had 2 chips - the initial is small and can be ignored but the recent one is quite large and aesthetically bothersome. I would just like to an idea on my options and should it be an expensive procedure. Please see attached photo. Many thanks, Richard Answer Dear...

open embrasure
Published (2009-11-06 00:00:00)
Went to a dentist for a porcelain fused to metal crown (high-noble)on #7. The fit wasn't good; the dentist said there was a black hole in the triangular area between tooth #7 and #8. He said this gap or space is known as an open embrasure. The dentist said it can be corrected by having the crown sent back to the lab where the technician can add more porcelain to it. Yesterday, I went to the dentist for the crown with the newly added...

I had a painful cold/hot/sweets tooth sensitivity, so I went to dentist whom my parent recommended. He always done their root canals himself (usually within 2 visits). However when i came to him, he tool a look at the x-ray, said its a tooth decay in Tooth 15 (H) and immediately referred me to endodontrist. he said its a there is a opening between my teeth. My other dentist put (supposedly) small filling on this tooth and it was on pulp and...

Tooth #10 had extensive decay and underwent root canal treatment(2 years ago) and a gold post was put in. #8 was loss to accident(more than 30 years ago)and #9 was extracted a year and a half ago(tooth not salvagable)also due to failed bridge. Had implants on #8 and #9 placed by an oral surgeon. General dentist restored...

No teeth
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
My son is 15 months old..He has only two lower teeth..I am worried.. Answer Dear Nazish, Please don't worry, eruption sequence varies greatly with children. My own son did not get his first teeth until around the same age. I suspect that during the next month or two you will see more teeth coming into the mouth. If you want to see the teeth now you can press on his gums with the ball of your finger and release quickly, you will see the...

papilla
Published (2009-11-13 00:00:00)
Had two implant crown restorations (#8 and #9) done during this past July. The dentist left space in each of the crowns because he claimed space was needed for the papilla to grow in. Recently, I asked my dentist how long will it take for this growth and he didn't know. To me the space looks the same as it did in July. Is there anything I can do to promote the papilla to fill in the open space? And what time frame should I be...

Biting pain after composite filling
Published (2009-11-04 00:00:00)
Hello Dr. Schwartz, I had a couple of composite fillings a week ago in my next-to-last molar on top. I'm not experiencing any sensitivity to hot or cold foods/drinks, but when I chew, I feel a shock of pain. The sensitive point is right between two teeth - flossing that spot is very painful, but brushing doesn't hurt, nor does clenching my jaw. There was no pain prior to the filling. I felt similar pain last time I had a filling on...
