Coin Value
Published (2009-12-05 00:00:00)
I have a Vittorio Emanuele 1862 5 cent centesimi coin with an N mint mark.  Condition is fair to poor.   What would be the value of this coin? Thanks for your help.   Answer Hi Bryce, Unfortunately the value for foreign coin in low grade is not anything at all like that of old US coins. This coin in the condition you describe would only be worth a dollar or two. Even a decent, mid-grade example will be...

1943 copper Lincoln penny
Published (2009-12-06 00:00:00)
I recently sold what appeared to be copper 1943 Lincoln pennies to a dealer. Later I found out their potential value. What are the odds they were real ( I have since discovered they are rare)? And under what obligation is a dealer to not "cheat" me if they were real? This is an organization which travels to cities and buys estates and coins. Answer Jean, Unfortunately, if they were real, you've been screwed.  They are...

Coin #2 - 1913 Indian Head with Liberty on one side / Eagle with E Pluribus Unum / In God We Trust / United States of America / 2 1/2 Dollars on the opposite side. Answer Hi Rob, Without seeing the coins, it's hard.  If they are in avg circulated condition,...

US currency with yellow back
Published (2009-12-06 00:00:00)
I've asked numerous people about this and can't seem to get an answer. I have a 1963 $1 bill, the front is no different then any other bill. The back is very different, the whole back side is yellow. Is this a misprint, or has somebody altered the bill? If it was altered, how is it possible to only affect one side? I've seen other bills like this out there, like on ebay and the dates that I have seen range from 1963 to 1977. I...

proof sets
Published (2009-12-03 00:00:00)
Is there any silver in sets after 1963 or are they all clad? Thanks Doug Answer Hi Doug, Yes, the 1964 set contains 90% silver Half, Quarter, and Dime.  Sets from 1965 to 1970 have 40% Silver Half Dollar.  There are many other special silver sets made to date.  I recommend you pick up A Guide Book of United States Coins (called the Red Book) for more information.    Yes, the following is a canned...
