Removing clock hands
Published (2010-01-01 00:00:00)
I'm trying to fix an Elgin Quartz anniversary clock, but can't figure out how to remove the hands so I can remove the clock works to see if the gear has any broken teeth. Answer Hi Larry The nylon wheels break if the time is set by setting the hands manually. Always use the rear set knob. These clocks suffer from having the battery left in too long before being replaced. The battery breaks down and the vapors start to corrode the...

Revere Clock
Published (2009-12-31 00:00:00)
I inherited a clock from my Mother It is a Revere Telechron 2 chime (Grandmother Clock?) While moving it the Chime bars broke free of the clock. It looks as if they actually snapped off. Only one of the Bars is still attached. I need to get this repaired. The clock works great! The Head of the clock is stamped in ink 72426 and the wood actually has the numbers 454 engraved in the wood. If this helps. Can you please contact me on what I need to...

the benson by daneker clock
Published (2010-01-01 00:00:00)
This clock was purchased by my parents at a furniture store sometime in the mid to late '60's.  I was a little girl at the time and I am not in my mid 50's.  The clock kept stopping.  I removed the weights and pendulum and tried to move it to another place in the room.  That did not work.  We moved it back.  It is on a board that has carpet under it.  Once I moved it...

Old Seth Thomas grandfather...

The old clock was moved to my house and now I can't get the pendulum to swing correctly-swings for a while then stops.  I'm sure the clock is plumb.  Any adjustments that you would recommend?  Thanks! Answer Level the clock according to the "beat" of the pendulum. This is what actually determines whether a clock will run or not. You want to hear a balanced cadence like you get from a metronome....

Seth Thomas CHERUBA
Published (2009-12-31 00:00:00)
I am looking for links to information or the information itself on Seth Thomas CHERUBA clock made in 1895. Pics would be helpful. Is this link one and how rare are they? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300381370715 Answer I'm not sure of this exact model but these clocks by Seth Thomas are generally known as Adamantines which refers to the celluloid finish. This process was patented in 1880, not 1860 as it says in...

Hermile grandfather clock
Published (2009-12-30 00:00:00)
We bought a used clock, and one of the weights' hooks is broken. We just set the clock up, and only have 2 weights hanging. The clock chimes, but doesn't bong. Will this hurt the clock? We need a crash course on grandfather clocks. Is there a good reference book we should get? Answer Hi Deborah, Running the clock without the strike weight will probably not cause any damage, although it can occasionally jam the chime mechanism, or both...
