Very true Greek, the 40mm tend to cough at low revs until the changeover to the main jets.I run that setup in my S2 33 now.Used a 1712cc from a 1988 Sprint with the 1490 qv box.Higher 5th gear means it's not revving it's guts out on the motorway;i.e 4000rpm @70mph in my old Sprint now is just over 3200rpm with the later 33 'box.

carbs are different, 40mm for the 1.7 and 36mm for the 1.5 i've had an alfasud Ti with a 1.7 engine, on the 36mm carbs and the short ratio 1.5 TiQV gearbox attached i found that a superb combination, and much smoother than my original '87 33 1.7 QV with its original 40mm carbs, so you can use your 36mm carbs on the 1.7, but have it tested on a rolling road to make sure it doesn't run to lean or else it will break

Yes. No problems with any of the carb cars. All external dimensions and bolt holes are the same.

Fair play my mate, you don't do things by halves. The only thing I can think to suggest is to contact Federal Mogul direct or a local supplier who should be able to cross reference the numbers you have.If no joy,let me have as much info as you have got and I will have a word in an ear of a very knowlegable parts friend of mine.

Oddly enough I seem to have agreed to buy another Sprint (1.5) to save it from being scrapped....will get it next week - no idea where I'm going to put it, or what I'll do with it until I see what condition its in - it may be an engine donor for my 1.3 Sprint, or it could become a trackday or even a race car...anyone got a roll-cage?

Hi all.
Beside my Alfa 166 I also own my beloved 33 1.7 QV (2 series) wish I am currently restoring, looking forward for the day it will leave my garage.
A few days ago a strange thing happened...
The engine was running (neutral) and suddenly it died. When I, again, turned the key the ignition lights stood off and even though the starter works, the engine won't start... I ...

Go for it mate! I was going to get the same thing to cover a paint blemish on my boot, but then I got a Q2 so I used that badge instead. I think it would look smart and subtle

some good ideas there and i too look forward to following the progress
good idea to go on a weight saving spree, surprising how much the glass weighs
don't know about removing the heater though, i know it will save weight but cars without them tend to suffer terribly with wet races. not being able to see for a fogged screen doesn't help your lap times have heard about heted elements ...

Yes it is common for 2nd gear to grin but it is not really a problem, more of a character. But if you want to repair it just change the synchro which means drop gear box , open it and change parts. As for price , i am guessing the man-hours ofgear drop and reassemble plus the small cost of part.

about 9 years ago i bought myself an '86 Arna 1.2SL 5-door
my wife was furious, and didn't want to be seen in it, let alone drive it.
i bought it anyway, because i just love the alfaboxers, and in my mind i'd grew a plan to build my own boxercollection and already owning a series2 33, and a sud Ti, so the sprint and the arna were the missing items
so when an arna came up for sale at a...

Hi James
As requested a few pics of my V8 Sprite - As the clutch plate had stuck/rusted onto the flywheel I had to take the engine and gearbox out last week and I put my better old race engine in tonight (having made sure that its clutch plate was free!) Its a bit messy and I've got to do lots of tidying
