Problem with bleeding a clutch...
Published (2009-11-11 12:46:00)
I think the problem is that they are all prone to fail. So, since it is a bit of work to replace it, might as well replace it with one that is stronger than original, instead of setting yourself up for failure with one that is bound to fail as well. I just don't see the difference in a beefier one, or a well repaired used one. with a solid weld, there's no reason that the original one would break again.

Anyone out there in Denver CO??
Published (2009-11-08 08:49:00)
Rick, Wife going to Denver for 2 weeks CO training late Nov early Dec. Needed to get info on what best clothing to take if possible. Winters in Memphis usually so mild we do not have much in the way of heavy winter clothing - boots ect. Probably slight misuse of the BB but the members are always so friendly and helpful I felt I could get some useful advice - and I did. Thanks to all, Robert

Heater Blower Problem Sloved
Published (2009-11-09 20:26:00)
Double check that the fan motor is bad before you go to all of that trouble. I like to check blowers, etc by powering them directly from a 12 volt battery. I keep a burglar alarm battery on float for this purpose. My Milano blower would not run recently and it turned out to be a bad ground. At first I thought it was a bad motor because I had 12 volts at the motor terminal when it was switched on.

Thoughts on Carello headlight...
Published (2009-11-11 09:14:00)
Nice post! To me the headlight covers with a chrome finished edge looks more purposeful, as do period Ferrari, et al headlight covers. Without that, the current Carello covers we get look like an after thought or perhaps where someone left off the chrome trim kit when they installed it. Add this to the list with: carbs vs. Spica, with or without pan guards, etc.

Engine not firing on all cylinders
Published (2009-11-09 09:05:00)
If it's one specific cylinder, it's got to be a lack of spark, fuel, or compression. If it's more of an intermittent misfire, not specific to one cylinder, it could be a sensor, etc. problem. See the L-Jet diagnostics posted a number of places here for step-by-step procedures. I'd look at the sparks plugs first, since they're easy, to determine if one cylinder is not firing (plug will look noticeably different from...

You're missing the bracket that attaches to the hardtop. Look at this post
Hardtop / Tonneau cover attachments on S4 Spider
Not that you would, but don't try using your hardtop without the J hooks, unless you don't mind losing it while driving down the road. The windshield brackets and hooks on the back are not enough to keep it secured safely.

The first thing anyone will ask is whether the bleed screw was oriented at
12 o'clock. If it isn't you're never going to get all the air out.

while it is possible that one of the flywheel sensors is dodgy, it is more likely that is not your problem. You say the wires , plugs rotor cap are all new. was this the last work performed to the car ?
I would start by inspecting the rotor and cap, it's possible that one or both are not seated correctly.

[quote=skydoc2336;645056]I Have A Broken Tab On One Of Mine. Can Those Be Fixed?/QUOTE]
I've had this problem since 1967. Sometimes you get the little rubber inserts the go in the hole. OK, but too soft and don't stay in. a little harder plastic would be nice.
When my tabs broke off - two or three times per year if I kept buying covers - I cut a 5 mm by 25 mm thin aluminum tab and ...

I bought a low milage 86 spider last summer. It has only 68k on it and has been adult owned since new. Very cherry.
Anyway, the only thing that did not work was the heater blower. As usual i check online as to what it may be. Checked the fan that it turned (it did) and then voltage to the motor (none). Fuses good then pulled the switch and it had nothing attached to it. Found the plug and viola...

Hello
I'm a new member. I've just bought a 1967 Duetto (I owned a 1968 1300 Junior Spider from 1977 to 1988 so know the cars well). My new car has ch.no. 105.05.710163 verified by Marco Fazio as manufactured 8 May 1967. It should, according to Marco have engine series AR 00536. It actually has 1750 engine (I knew this when I purchased) AR 00548 B2319. The gearbox is also ...

You can ease the tension slightly by adjusting the frame mounts. They are
just behind the door- 3 bolts. If you search for a convertible install
manual you will find the pics to help plus a more thorough procedure
description. The side cables have no effect on tensioning the top, just the
side (window) flaps.

Price is way high for the condition. And that's without even knowing the mechanical condition.
Yes, anything is restorable, but is it economically viable to do so? This price will get you a shabby decent-running Bosch Spider with minor issues in the Bay Area, and I imagine in Florida too, where there are a fair number of them.

Forget it. The easiest way to replace a flywheel is to leave the engine in
the car and pull the transmission. This leaves plenty of working room to
address flywheel issues, and is less troublesome than pulling the engine,
or engine and transmission. Just my opinion.

Removing the air box allows easier access to the oil filter. I dont exactly remember but the car takes a good amount of oil.
At least from the pictures the paint does not look that bad. Def. not to the point where I think it would be worth going through paining it. Specially to another color. Real Alfas are red

The correct bulbs are the Sylvania "European Lamp" 2721. But you've got the wrong voltage & wattage listed there: they should be 1.2W and either 12 or 14V.

Good question. Not sure if you can go by what Alfa states in the owner's
manual if you put on new wider, lower aspect tires. I bought new tires at a
local tire store that I've dealt with often with my other cars. With
195/65-14s, I keep them at 30 psi. Not sure what a good place to get tires
from online would be. Tire Rack certainly makes it easy to compare tires
and look at others' comments. ...

Ya know Stan, I've seen those in other posts (one by Willie awhile back) but they were missing on my car even at 6 years old. I've surmised in 34 years of use that they are only needed if you intend to lower the top while sitting; it helps to pull the floating bow back and not get jammed. However, that causes a lot of other grief such as pinching the top fabric at the edge of the floating bow ...
