Value of restored 1750 GTV -...

I agree with the opinions of doing the resto rather than buying a show car...there is something satisfying about the process... In essence I have been restoring a so-called restored 1750 for 5 years...the original job (see the thread in this section) was done so poorly and so much that was claimed to have been done was not that (other than the interior which was immaculately and the thing they really did well) I've replaced every major...

Here in Illinois, there is no such thing as gasoline anymore. It is a changing blend of fossil oil distillates, ethanol, and distillate soluble gasses, like isobutane, and others. Some for air cleanliness, some for anti-knock, some as volume extenders, others as stabilizers, so on and so forth. Any of these things, either alone or in combination can damage systems designed for good old gasoline. Not like the good old days!

74 GTV spica
Published (2009-11-28 20:45:00)
Which plug is normal? is it #4? but first thing I'd do is a compression check I get 23 mpg in what is a cross between city driving and a couple of miles between stoplights in my 73 with 10:1 pistons, ported intake and head, shankle headers and spica perfromance cams using a shankle sure start instead of a TA and 410 gears in the rear end. Funny thing is my stock except for 74 exhaust manifolds 77 spider gets about the same under identical...

GTV project oppinions
Published (2009-12-06 11:01:00)
I think matte black on a track-oriented GTV can look quite nice, the key is how well it is done and the other details of the car. From what I gather it is not easy to apply evenly and in a finish that holds up well to automotive use. Here is a matte black car I saw at the 2009 AROC convention. The owner told me he intended it to be a temporary paint job but grew to like it. It works for me! A large green hood serpent would be a little much,...

GTV 2000 Auto to manual, how hard?
Published (2009-12-06 08:47:00)
We never got auto GTVs in the US, but offhand from the Berlina auto trans manual I have, I would estimate: * Flywheel to replace flex plate * Trans, shifter, and console changes * Driveshaft * Clutch pedal, pedal box, hydraulics, pipes * Remove "kick down" accelerator pedal mechanism * Maybe source new accel linkage * Probably you have a lower numerical rear end ratio to go with the auto trans and will want to change to a 4.3...

Original Fuel Hose for early GT

Chuck...there is an NOS version of your OEM plug wires on ebay right now...that guy in Cypres has em. JoeCab, Isn't 10% ethanol a pretty normal mixture these days with pump gas...? Gives me pause about using the OEM Cavis stuff. Gordon, What kind of hose and dye did you use? Any Chemistry geeks out there that can recommend an ethanol proof hose that is clear and tintable with dye? RP

[Nov 24 2009] 1974 GTV 2000...
Published (2009-11-28 09:40:00)
Thank you, Peter! We're going to give it a go at cleaning it up. The armature moves freely now that I've had it apart and the gears look good. If it doesn't sound or look good afterwards on the bench then I'll happily go for a new motor even if it isn't original. While that is of some importance to us (mostly on behalf of the future owner) I want to get going here so we can pass inspection. In any event I'll keep...

Fine if you want to join the "boy racer" crowd-would suit a Nissan, or Honda or Subaru better though. Alfas are not really this category of car and an original colour would look much better, maintain the value of your car and look better Othewise its going to look like a 50 yr old woman trying to look like a 20yr old prostitute. Rats with a gold tooth will have more class. Your car though.

If it is available in your area, first coat is zink chromate primer. Otherwise a good self etching primer. My choice for a color coat was BMW Polaris silver in urethane.

The outermost piece (first photo in first post) is simply pulled forward with sufficient force to overcome the retaining pressure of the three spring tabs (visible in the second photo of the first post). I find it best to pull firmly on the outer ring at approximately the same spot where those spring tabs are (you need to hook you fingertips under the ring and in the gap between the face of the ...

No expert here but the major difference I think would be floor pedals vs hanging pedals, mechanical clutch vs hydraulic clutch. I believe there are some differences in the front suspension but you may be able to still fit the newer running gear without too much trouble. I think the rear suspension is a drop in.
