Hard wiring is the best thing, but just remember that your engine is producing AC voltage (unless it has a 12v battery). You must install a rectifier to convert it to DC before you can wire up a GPS. The stick-on thumb warmer on the back of the mounting bracket is all you need to keep a Garmin running is very sub-zero temps. You'll generally want to wire the thumb warmer up in a straight low-heat setting or put it on a hi-lo switch.

Help needed picking a sled
Published (2009-12-24 13:13:00)
not a skidoo fan but my buddys tundra 550 is a pretty nice sled for what your talking about. It does fine in powder and cruises along nicely and good for pulling a sled. It has a pretty long track so plenty of floatation and he added a huge skid plate in the front for plowing through the willows. Pretty nice rig but eats a lot of gas.

That's a great Idea Greythorne! Build your metal windshield and take a rider through hatchers as fast as you can! Go do it now.

I'll second what Trail Boss said. The '07 Yamaha Attack was crazy fast. At 110mph indicated you could squeeze the throttle and the front end wanted to lift. I'd never felt anything that pulled like that at the top and still haven't! Was it the old Blizzards that had the carbs sticking back toward your crotch? I remember seeing a guy on Big Lake running down the ice road feeding his carbs with a can of ether. That sled went...

Since speed is not a concern, 2 good options would be: an older Bearcat 340 or 440 - it has a long wide track, can haul a good load, and is good on gas. or A Yamaha Bravo...it is the only 2 stroke Yamaha still makes. It's good on gas at 250cc and is more reliable than anything on the market. It's nerdy looking and slow, but who cares...won't get you stuck - you can lift it with one arm. ...

If you think a Summit with a 144" track is too heavy forget any of the 4-strokes, they'll weigh in roughly 100 pounds or more heavier than any comparable 2-stroke machine. Note: I made this last statement if full knowing that every lead-sled owner will come out of the woodwork now. You are going to be looking at lightweight, lower end utility sleds for what you want. The size of the motor ...

I just returned from a weekend trip into Alpine Creek Lodge with my wife Julie and our dog Henrie. The ride in on Saturday was "bone-chilling" cold, but we made it in with all of our digits. After a great dinner of moose and potatoes, made by Uncle Craig, I went on an awsome trail ride with Gordon, Bob and Craig. The temperature for the ride increased to 10 above which was much better than the ...
