My friend Ed Turner, works for a company that cleans up spills, he supervises these clean up projects for them. Well they had one on the west coast about a week and a half or so back and the two guys that were out there messed up the job according to California law and were sent home (fired). Ed was sent by the company to salvage the project and took their place. Now you might ask what significance or why are you telling us this? Well, I was...

Hornady .35 rem

I still shake my head at that range. Much as I love the cartridge, it shows my own ignorance I think. While I wouldn't hesitate on the shot with one of my 358's I just wouldn't have thought to try it with any of the loads I have tried in any 35 Rem I've owned. And that tells you my mind simply hasn't wrapped itself around the improved performance offered by the Hornady ammo. Obviously I have some rethinking to do,...

Very versatile cartridge... I also understand that Hodgdon has released some loading data suggesting that you can also use H4895 at 65% reduction from top loads in cartridges that are being loaded safetly with that powder... Do you have a chronograph to shoot those loads over, it would be interesting to know what your velocities are, although if you know the B.C. of that bullet and it's tradjectory.., the velocity should be simple to fine...

BrownBear, could you expand a little on the work you did to your Ruger # 1. I have one in 25-06 and have read some articals about accurizing these but haven't as yet done anything except load development.

375 Winchester question
Published (2009-11-14 02:22:00)
The .375 Winchester is based on a high pressure version of the .38-55 case, with thicker case walls and a stronger head. Although its case is .065" shorter than the old .38-55 case, .375 Winchester brass can be used for .38-55 reloads if necessary. The reverse is not true, however. Smitty of the North

358 Norma vs 338 WM
Published (2009-11-15 02:19:00)
A+ on the coolness factor, .358 Norma mag is IMO a great rifle for hunting in Alaska. If you don't reload, factory ammo is easy enough to find on-line.

I took my first 2 deer with the 6mm Rem and although it did a less than stellar job I was sucessful in harvesting a couple of bucks with it. The 6mm does have a slightly bigger case than the 243 and you can load it a little hotter but not enough to create any real gain, in my opinion of course. I believe that where both the 243 and 6mm shine is as a predator cartridge, being better at longer ...

Thanks for the replies. I'm just trying to decide on a 22lr right now for target as well as rabbits and grouse. I see a pro hunter 28" available, but I'm thinking it might be alittle long??? When I called the TC custom shop they quoted me $375 for a match grade 24" and 8-10 weeks! Thats almost to long. I think I will go with a 26" Heavy barrel in 3006 since I already have the reloading dies. I ...

Good project. Although the whelen is a great cartridge, the 358Norma will do anything the whelen will do and then some. My 358N shoots a 250gr at 2880 with a 24" barrel. You can load the Norma down as far as you want but you can only go up so far with the whelen. 300WM is easy to turn into the 358N and is easy to get. I would guess 2750fps with a 250gr would be easy from a 20" tube.

I have both, and for reloading the 338 is cheaper for brass. However, I am ok with the higher cost of the 358Norma brass and like it a bit better. Probably because it is a custom gun built the way I wanted it versus the 338, which has not been modified. As for killing, they are the same. I find that 250 grain A-Frames in both calibers perform the same on a broadside shoulder shot. (Moose). ...

Alot of the stuff posted is ten years old or more. You can do more good by being a big brother and takeing a kid hunting than preaching every day on the forum. Time spent posting here is much better spent sending the same words to D.C. or the local paper.

Went to their web site and click on the advertisement and it worked out. Unfortunately, you can't ship a brass tumbler to Alaska.

Lower 48 here. Built one on a VZ24 mauser in scout config with a 23 inch shilen #2 taper. 250 grain round nose for hogs, 200 grain hornadys for white tail, 215 sierras for mulies, 250 grain sierras from 300-400 yard elk and 275 woodleighs for bear.
Can't get more versital than that. You'd be well served by this cartridge.

Any one know of a referrence to find the twist rate of a Remington 600 Mohawk in .243 and .308 (not the 660 vent rib)?
I'm also looking for favorite (accurate) loads in both. Thanks.

That is really cool BT! Wouldn't want to be hit by that
I'll have to try that with my 300 RUM and a 180 E-Tip @ 3400 fps

I have a Ruger No. 1 in 25-06 and love it!! Loading options are vast. Ruger No. 1's are not known for accuracy but this rifle is a tack driver with handloads. A bolt gun in this caliber can be loaded for all game in Alaska except the big Bears. Awesom cartridge, flat shooting and powerful with 120 gr. nosler's.

Thanks for the update. IMO the 35 Remington has gained a huge improvement in performance from the Leverevolution ammo.
Nice elk. I am confident you will appreciate the elk and your 35 all winter long.

Someone else can chime in on whether it will "hurt" anything or not, but i wouldn't do it. The .30 cal bullets in a .375 bore just don't seem right.
I had a 14" T/C association .375 Win barrel years ago. It shot great, but IIRC, I sold it because it had a break on it and i didn't like the noise.
Love my T/C's - have a few contender frames and a couple of Encore's. Neat guns! Enjoy yours...
