Moderators, Like many, I tend to hunt outside of Alaska during the later part of the year. It would be nice to have a place on the forum to hear and learn about hunts that fellow Alaskans have taken outside of Alaska. Might be a great way to inform others of places they might consider looking into or where not to waste your money and time off. What do you think of starting a poll to determine if others are interested? Just a suggestion, Louis

Back from my first trip to Kodiak

You guys are changing my mind.....maybe Kodiak is a contender for the nicest Sitka Bucks. Although I know first hand there are sleeper locations that nobody talks about that hold great Sitka too. Those outfitted Kodiak trips are looking nice.

Folks, this thread got bumped back up because a new member complained about the new owner of Harter's Taxidermy. I'm well aware of the rules, and that's why I deleted the post and sent the member a note about it. While doing so, someone replied to his stated concern. There is nothing else here that violates the forum rules. The thread started with a valid concern, not a negative comment, and it was addressed.

Rimfiremat, When mounting rams, the horn cores are left on the top portion of the skull. I have often recommended that we, as hunters and guides, hang-out with your favorite taxidermist to learn proper skinning and caping procedures. So while volunteering some time to my favorite taxidermist I have observed a bunch of ram being mounted, including my best five rams. The horn cores have always been left attached to the top portion of the skull,...

I know nothing about Tundra trucks,we dont have them here.I havent seen any bashing against any truckers, as mentioned below, but this is the first I have heard of this. I havent seen any military bashing, either, only lots of Ft. Here and Ft. There hunters posting their storys of success and questions, and I rather like 'em. Then again, I most likely not be paying such dribble any attention untill it is a comment against neighbors,...

I think that Wayne has been busy with the any sheep shift in 13D. He has
been fighting with the fg biologists.
I really think that we need to get that group back together.
It might be a case where our humble forum sponsor Michael Strahan gets involved-he did it in the past. I think he would do a great job with it.
I don't know more. I do know that my personal research is going ...

You may want to check in the AK regs to make sure it is legal to buy a skull from an Alaska dall ram? I am pretty sure it is illegal to buy/sell skulls in AK? If someone wants to give one to you I imagine that is ok?

Thanks for the report! I don't think people see all that adventure and hunting is that close to South central Ak. Leave Anchorage at 4:00 am and be there with machines unloaded at sun up. With coffee at Glennallen or Cantwell.

If I'm not mistaken the "road system" in Port Lyons extends from the ferry terminal to the village & to the dump. I think if you are on the road system you are pretty much "in town" & probably on private property. Could be wrong though.

in addition to ACM homer ocean and alaska premier sportfishing both offer good hunts.
lots of bears, most are about 5 1/2'. a few bigger, some smaller.
most of the boats hunt around the corner on the outer coast, more from port chatham to port dick.
i think homer ocean has an agreement (as in paid a bunch of money) with seldovia native tribe to hunt in seldovia bay, and that has been bonus...

The Alaska Dispatch has a really good article on the Rt Hope 'bou slaughter. Part 1 of 3. It is a long read, but has a lot of info I was not aware of based on a few ADN articles I have read. Court case is coming up at the end of the month.

Anyone here have any recent, first hand experience using Rust's Flying Service for a caribou hunt. Looking for some info specific to his operation and the areas he hunts for caribou. It looks like this might be a economical option for a fly out hunt. Any suggestions as to when would be a good time frame (date/week) for this trip in this area? Thanks...

Just got back from Sitkinak and thought I would write up a quick report before I throw the turkey in the oven! Three of us flew out with Andrew Airways on Sunday and arrived on a windy, rainy Sitkinak Island. We quickly pitched the tent and as we were preparing to head out and start hunting a red fox wandered into camp, I got my 22 out the the tent and took him while he was hunting mice. We got ...

HighestView, congrats on your first bull. Sounds like you had a hell of a time. After a month or two, you forget about the bad peices of trip and remember the good times. Enjoy the meat as a nice spike/fork is about as good as it gets.
Congrats again.

As I like to see new places and have been deer hunting practically from birth, I was elated to learn that I would be going to Kodiak on a deer hunt. I had many near misses and almost had to cancel the trip a couple of times but in the end I finally ended up getting me and a buddy of mine airline tickets so there was no backing out for either of us, so off we went last Wednesday.
The first ...

You are correct, it only applies to other guides. But, if you get drawn I would contact the guide before the hunt and work out an arrangement concerning hunting locations so you can avoid running into each other.
