500 mag. Performance on big game

Thia might interest you, at least in the FWIW sense. I've compared a number of 300 grain jacketed pistol bullets on bundled newspapers and game, mostly deer, at 44 mag handgun velocities (1150MV) and faster (2200MV) out of a .429 wildcat based on the 45-70 case and delivering more whoop than a 444 Marlin. Sierras, Hornadys, Noslers and Speers were fine in the hangun, even expanding a little. From the wildcat, Speers did best, retaining...

Shotshell ? for 10mm
Published (2009-11-05 01:15:00)
40 shotshells won't generate enough recoil to operate the slide on a 40 pistol. I believe it's printed on the packaging. I've fired thousands of 40's through a Glock 20 and Colt Delta Elite and every rounds have gone bang, did it because the 40 ammo was free. The only thing I've noticed was that accuracy was not up to par as 10mm ammo. Still got the same extractors in those guns.

Shotshell ? for 10mm
Published (2009-11-04 01:15:00)
I have seen .40S&W shotshells. The case also forms the bullet portion then is wax filled or the like. So since the bullet part of the case goes into the barrel, would this pose a problem or be fine then in a .10mm?

I generally won't carry a pistol and a rifle.... maybe either or, but very rarely both. Just another thing to keep up with and tote about. If I'm hunting- its a rifle. If I'm hiking its a toss up- sometimes I take a rifle just for kicks then too.

Do a search of the hunting and shooting threads for "bear+protection" and you'll see a lot of information to help make your decision.
To summarize all the threads you'll see in your search: The shotgun is thought to be more effective and easier to use in a stressful situation, but the large revolvers are adequate if you devote the time to practice, and more likely to actually be available ...

I use a Colt anaconda in 44 mag. Magna ported. Had it for years and love it. Killed two does in SC with it and a few rattlers. Heavy though.

Who's has one? Thoughts? Opinions? I'm torn between the Springfield XD model and the Smith & Wesson. Ammo seems plentiful from what I've noticed, which is a huge plus since I have no intentions on reloading for a semi-auto nor this cartridge.

I have two every day carry Rowlands. I do not leave home without one and my wife carries the second.
Real world published ballistics!
Very nice concept as since you like the 1911, they carry very flat and comfortable in a Jackass style shoulder holster. All day carry day after day without fatigue.
