Top Gun and Airplane pretty much tell you everything you need to know... Seriously though, checkout The High and the Mighty. Not exactly "love of flying" but pretty good aviation drama. Also there are numerous IMAX aviation movies, any of which should be worth the ticket price.

I like Hero's, How I met your Mother, Big Bang theory, NCIS, Survivor, Amazing Race. I was disappointed in the discontinuance of The Unit, and Life last year. I just got DISH, but have been too busy to really explore those shows yet. When I used to have cable(3yrs ago) I loved Discovery channel show's like Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, etc.... I'm not quite sure what you need to do, but I threw the numbers on Excel, and that's the best fit curve.
I haven't a clue what kind of class you're taking, but this wiki link will provide some basic info on geometric progressions and links to exponential growth.
