Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s installment of A Movie A Day. [For those now joining us, A Movie A Day is my attempt at filling in gaps in my film knowledge. My DVD collection is thousands strong, many of them films I haven’t seen yet, but picked up as I scoured used DVD stores. Each day I’ll pull a previously unseen film from my collection and discuss it here. ...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yes, I was severely disappointed with SPIDER-MAN 3 just like 98% of you guys were. It's one of those movies that just seemed to be off-key, missing every note by a few seconds. But you gotta give Sam Raimi credit for what he did with the first two. Of the three films, I like SPIDER-MAN, but I love SPIDER-MAN 2. According to Nikki Finke at ...

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. I’m not sure what any of you expect when you click on a story about this film. Cheap easy shots at it automatically? Because that seems to be what most of the coverage I've read everywhere has been. It’s become a punching bag already for a percentage of the press and the audience alike, but I haven’t seen it, certainly, and haven’t even seen ...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with Anton Sirius' first of many reports from the Toronto International Film Festival. I am salivating about JCVD, which absolutely sounds like the most fun flick doing festival rounds right now. Can't wait for Fantastic Fest. As for Sauna... well, J-horror has been stale for years now, so it's not surprising if it doesn't work. But I'll let Anton give you...

Hola all. Massawyrm here. Nicholas Cage hasn’t exactly been on what I would call a winning streak as of late. Sure, if it were any number of other mainstream actors I might not even notice, and even if I did someone would point to the box office and argue that no matter how bad they might be, his movies are still making money. But Cage isn’t one of those average doin’-it-for-...

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here. Clark Duke’s gonna be there. That may not mean anything to you yet, but it will after you see the film. So’s Mr. Beaks. And Sean Anders who directed the film... he’s gonna be there, too. The question is, are YOU going to be there? If you live in the Los Angeles area, you’re not easily offended, and you have been known to laugh on occasion,...

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here. Kim Basinger fascinates me. I can’t, for the life of me, understand how she ended up as an actress. She’s a beautiful woman, certainly, and in her youth, she was breathtaking. But there are very few people I’ve ever seen working as actors who seem as genuinely uncomfortable in front of a camera as she always has. There are moments in her ...

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here. It’s been a rough summer for documentaries at the box-office, but a few films have managed to break through and at least create a bit of buzz. It may not have translated into giant DARK KNIGHT style business, but at least they’ve made some impression. And in one case, I’d say one of the very best films of the year deserves more attention than it’...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some sad, sad news. Recently, Don LaFontaine, the voice of movie marketing, passed away. Now movie marketing is losing its face, thankfully not to death. According to a story at TheRaider.net , Drew Struzan is retiring from the business in order to spend more time with his family, on his own paintings and just enjoy life. I can't say I blame the ...

Beaks here... Though I thought it was incredibly apparent that Harvey Dent/Two-Face was dead at the end of THE DARK KNIGHT, there are those who insist that he's not "movie dead" because we don't follow the character's corpse from embalming to interment (as has been the custom since Porter's THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY). Since I was fortunate enough to snag an interview with Aaron ...

Hey folks, Harry here. This looks pretty damn incredible. Outside of the Gay community, I don't think that Harvey Milk was as well known as his name so much as the "Mayor of Castro Street" - He's generally credited with being the first openly gay man elected to a significant political office... ever. He fought hard for Gay rights and this film seems to be a pretty damn ...

Beaks here... Did I miss something, or did THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK make a killing on DVD? I know the RIDDICK video game is considered one of the better movie tie-ins; did that outsell YAR'S REVENGE or something? I'm asking because Vin Diesel seems extraordinarily optimistic about the two RIDDICK sequels he's planning with writer-director David Twohy. Here's what Diesel told ...

I am – Hercules!! Is Warner Bros. contemplating going Bryan Singer-free for a new big-screen "Superman" project that could start shooting next summer?? From G4’s Blair Butler: "I've had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released ...

I am – Hercules!! Sony has hired Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, Emmy-nominated writer-producers on the Steve Carell version of "The Office," to script a "Ghostbusters" sequel that would reunite Venkman, Stanz, Spengler and Zeddemore. Harold Ramis, who co-wrote the earlier "Ghostbusters" movies and portrayed mold fetishist Egon Spengler in those comedies, is in post-...

Hey folks, Harry here... Thanks to Chris - a reader from Germany - he has made us aware of a brief Audio file from an interview with Sigourney Weaver which entirely concerns AVATAR - the movie that I feel we're collectively holding our breath awaiting the first real image, footage and trailer for. It's funny - the other day I sat down to watch the entire first series of the SARAH...

Hey folks, Harry here - There's a lot of charities and worthy causes in the world. All of them are very much worth donating to. Whether it is something like Katrina, Pediatric Cancer or whatever other pet charity you folks know of. Well - I've got one that maybe you haven't heard of. It's one about preserving History. About a group of geeks like us, that went on a ...
