May I clarify if you are seeing the Java crash on the latest version of AhsayOBM? To clarify, the latest AhsayOBM should have already fixed the issue of Java crashing on C [WinUtil32.dll+0xe900]. If you are on the latest version and is still experience the same issue, please submit a Support Ticket with details of the situation, as we may need access to the affected client machine in order to troubleshoot on the issue. On the other hand, if...

Exchange 2007 backup best practice
Published (2009-11-14 07:14:00)
By default your settings will run a full backup once the incremental chain hits its 100th upload (or 50% ratio file size of total incremental files to original file). You don't need to worry about scheduling it, as that will happen automatically (for better or worse). You are going to need to sell your client on a faster connection or just get into the habit of running a seed load every 3.333 months. Alternatively, you can use a...

Backup Time

Since I assume you are performing this backup over a local network you can set the 'Block Size' to 256kb instead of the default 128kb and that will definately decrease backup time. This is the Block Size for the backup set and NOT for in-file delta.

Bare Metal Restore for Linux?
Published (2009-11-06 01:48:00)
xcress, this might be true for common distributions that ship binaries. As I am doing Linux from Scratch (compiling everything on my own) it saves quite some time. Besides that the original question was about a bare metal restore on how to do it, not the question if it's meaningful or not.

30 minutes in , still nothing. Support I have a ticket in on this, please get us a solution. [#ERC-732820] So many features better than vxxxx, but this is a killer problem for me. Specially when vxxxx would query this list in less than 3 minutes.

The 5.5.5. 3 version is running stable for me now.
Had an issue with replication restarting from unsync mode in version 5.5.5.0-2, but thats fixed in .3
An issue with danish chars also fixed.
Have had the error 'OBS has been shutdown abnormally' on some backup sets, but since we only use the backup server for clients that we also do the it support for, we just restarted the ...

What version of OBM? Were the backup jobs in question setup with a custom encryption key, or the default? If default, was the backup account password changed at anytime?

For more information on wbadmin, please refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc75401 5.aspx
We have also conducted some testing on the wbadmin tool. However, we find that a new system state file is spooled every time when a system state backup is performed, with different name. Furthermore, the size of the system state backup can also be quite...

We are running OBS 5.5.5.2, and OBM clients 5.5.5.0. We are getting multiple errors on several clients like this:

I like your idea of having your own operating system for running OBS. I'm struggling with choosing a correct NAS model for my own on-site backup appliance solution to smbs. Now it seems that this BBF solution opens more choice for me.
quick questions:
1. You mentioned bare computer. Will DELL's tower servers do? They are quite cheap here in UK.
2. I've read your guides already ...

I have OBS 5.5.1.6 running. The menus say 'backup and replication server'. The service (which is running) says 'backup and replication server'. I have a folder tree under %AHSAYHome%\webapps\RPS.

This looks like connection issue from the client application to the server during the backup job. May I clarify if this is a wide spread problem for all of your users, or is this an isolated issue within only this user. We would like to pin point if this is a server side or client side issue.
Thanks.

Where did you hear of 5.5.5.3? I don't have any mention of it. What does it solve? Where is information on such hotfixes posted? I see information posted for major releases, but the download page doesn't have any of the hotfix version.

Yes it needs to connect to Ahsay's license servers, can't remember if it's port 80 or 443.

It seems like http://BACKUP_SERVER/obs/api/ListBackupJobStatus.d o is exactly what I need, if only the XML it returned was element- centric instead of attribute-centric so I could directly import it into an Access database. Anybody any ideas on this? Maybe there's a secret parameter I can suppled to ListBackupJobStatus.do to return the data as element-centric?
Thanks!

Since the error message is null, we need more information in order to further troubleshoot on the issue.
May I ask if this is a wide spread problem for all of your users, or if this is a persisting problem? Furthermore, can you verify under the client log to see if there is more information to be found? The client log can be found under the following directories:

To clarify, for existing data (data that already exist when the CDP module is started) will not be backed up automatically. For the CDP module, it will only backup "updated/new" data after the module is enabled. Hence, for the 100,000 files and hundreds of GB of data, are these files that already existed when the module is started? Or are these new data that will be added to the corresponding ...
