Good News for HTPC + Digital Cable
Published (2009-12-22 23:44:00)
I found a way to use a HTPC for HD digital cable. It requires windows 7 and a fake bios, much like the activation cracks. It also requires the ATI cablecar tuner, available in both internal and external forms...but both are USB. I am still not sure about the legality (I think it violets the DMCA still)...but it is possible, and it is perfectly legal to buy the parts. The internal version of the tuner is about $250. ...That should be enough...

5.1 system coming out 1 speaker...
Published (2009-12-22 13:28:00)
I have an HTPC and can't get the audio right. It seems to all come out of one speaker. It used to go through all the speakers. I am coming out of the speaker jack and splitting to rca jacks and going into the tape/vcr in on the Home Theater receiver. I have Realtek High Def listed as the sound device on the PC. It seems pretty straight forward to set it up, when I go through Control Panel and the sound icon. I am thinking there is...

As previously mentioned, movie collector will allow you to link to your dvd file, and play with powerdvd. This is how i currently do it. I link the movie to the vob file and when i click on it, it opens up power dvd and plays the movie. :) Originally posted by jfred305: Update: I have looked into the following programs for borwsing and playing my movie collection from my computer. TV card for my new PC I am building
Published (2009-12-26 23:33:00)
This will be a new thing for me and am very limited on my knowledge of PC and TV Tuner cards. Here's what I want it to do. I want the ability to connect my antenna that I currently have going to my HDTV to my PC. I know this requires the right type of card. I also want to be able to do simple functions with a IR remote. I also intend to use Windows Media Center (for now at least) I have a Phillips Pronto Pro remote and want to learn the...

get one of the hauppagauge tv tuner cards the hvr 1600 has both hd and analog inputs. These tuner cards get the video/audio directly from the coaxial input. It also has the hardware mpeg encoders built-in that is needed by the latest media software. These cards process all the video onboard, this means your cpu won't be used to do any of the encoding. For instance on my ...

It isn't the screen's fault; it is the low quality feed causing the blockyness; this is very common with streaming video. You could try turing down the resolution for windows; this might help matters, as the image will be stretched by the screen rather than by windows. Better yet, feed it into a crummy old SD CRT screen...that should elmimate almost all of the ...

If your card has component video input (reg, green, and blue)...these would be better. The IR Reciever should also have an IR Sender. The reciever is used to learn what signals are sent by what buttons on the remote that came with the box. The sender is used to change the channel on the box. I don't think there is a way around this in Windows Media Center. I know ...
