I love my dermafiles because they're easy to use on yourself. On another note, I'm planning to sell my professional machine soon for cheap because it's just sitting on the shelf and I'm not working full time right now. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just economics on my side. I had to take a full time office job for the steady check and benefits. arrgghh. Send me a private email if you've any interest.

I work with a lot of acne, so my acne 3-min speech would be: 1st 30 seconds: how dead cells build up in the pore lining to create impacted pores/microcomedones which can rupture 2nd 30 seconds: importance of good cleansing, periodic pro exfoliation and regular aha/bha home care minute 2: ability of skin to heal and repair effectively when not exposed to daily assault of sun damage minute 3: long-term stragegy of dealing with PIH and acne scars...

wow! what a story. that you had this severe a reaction a week post-wax, surprises me. the back is a large area and there are a lot of oil glands. waxing unroofs/disturbs the follicles, so reactions are common. I've seen folliculitis, pus-filled pimply-bumps and rash. did you go swimming or do a jacuzzi after the wax?

I think I took a warm bath a day or 2 after. I definitely considered hair stuff. I also bought Eminence Naseberry body wash from work that was half off because it had been sitting on the shelf for a while. So there are a few possibilities. It felt better most of the day but was flared up after work. When I pull my shoulders back it feels like what a sunburn would feel like. Crazy!!

I've seen dirty makeup brushes as well as old makeup cause weird skin breakouts. Also inquire about their stress levels. I've been reading a lot about the effects of stress on the body and what it can do to the skin.

I smoke pot but I dont deal from acne whatsoever. I have a dry skin type and my skin becomes built up with keratinization quite quickly....though I think my Shiseido The Skincare Extra-Comfort Cleansing Foam could also be making me more dry. I only use it on my Clarisonic skincare brush on the days that I shave...so its never every day. Anyway, interesting topic. I am grateful you posted it, Marion.

We use aweber.com for our salon/spa email newsletter--$19 a month and I think unlimited addresses and emails. You have to generate all of your own content for the newsletter, including design, but for people who like to do that kind of thing (like me) it works great! We do 2 emails a month generally with an email a week for the month of December. The one a week thing is new, we'll see what happens. I hope we don't irritate people...

Nichole: It can be confusing. First, antioxidants are always antioxidants, whether or not they're combined with cancer-causing and/or formaldehyde releasing ingredients. Second, although "formaldehyde-releasing" sounds horrible, and it is, the amounts are so insignificant that they reaslistically don't count. Third, even our own bodies produce a small (small, small, small) amount of formaldehyde. As far as...

My first thought would be cleansing, I find that most people's skin is not really cleansed well. Then Exfoliation, getting rid of all those dead cells, then nourishing the skin with peptides and then protection during the day, cleansing and nourishing will bring balance.

You might also try Illuminare. They have three different formulas for different skin types and each foundation has a matching blush. No minimums.

If you've decided on skinceuticals and eminence, you're limiting yourself to two high-end lines. My problem with skinceuticals is that they seem to be everywhere, and particularly at retail without much regard for a professional setting. However, the products are good. Eminence is a great line, but also pricey. Nevertheless, I'm a big fan. I'd get at least one more line for contrast, both in ...

Not related to OTC product purchases, but on a similar note, I learned a lot about retailing after visiting the Hershey Spa at the Hershey Hotel this fall. I had a Chocolate Facial, just about the fluffiest buffiest of the fluff n' buff facials. But I figured, while in Hershey, you get the Chocolate Facial. First of all, you have to pay for the facial PLUS the mandatory 20% gratuity BEFORE ...

I don't market via email - the main reason is that personally, when I get an email blast, I usually delete it w/o reading it. I can't be bothered. Not only that, but I do not collect email addresses from clients. Many, like myself, guard their addresses. The exception to this is when I get a blast email from a product distributor. I usually check to see if there is anything I can take ...

Tia - There seems to be a trend toward "team based" compensation in the suburban Chicago area and it seems to be a concept that is being pushed by salon and spa consultants. I am not sure how the compensation works but consultants are able to talk salon owners into this concept because they tell owners the system will prevent clients from leaving their salon and spa when a technician or stylist ...
