I'm not sure how that programs works but... If the mask is a vector object you can select it using the subselection tool and then edit/move the individual points. It's how I tighten up a selection made using the Pen tool.

Now, it's conceivable that you will want to make things more efficient. For example,...

Slicing and InDesign Import:...

Well I suppose thats marginally comforting. So if I as a person become a CSS wizard I will then be able to do what used to be a no-brainer using table creation in Photoshop/Image Ready. I have witnessed Adobe Lightroom create rock solid, complex web galleries automatically in seconds. Seems like it shouldnt be that hard for Fireworks to knock out a measly little structure from a simple layout. How does one make a CSS layout behave...

In the Color settings window, try turning off the color profile settings. I think this used to solve the issue.

Published (2009-12-17 11:43:00)
Let me clarify: I'd like to be able to set up common library elements in a way similar to InDesign's linked files, where if a designer opens up a document it gets automatically updated with any changes made to the common library. Is this possible with Fireworks, or are the common library elements generally just one-way?

Many thanks pixlor and Joyce for yourenlightenment. I now understand a lot about animated gifs. I have enabled dither, on one of my .gif files which has a gradient background and it almost look like a jpg file. I now know the points to consider when creating animated gifs. Thank you all once again.

Can you link to an animated .gif with a nice gradient background? My guess is that what you're seeing is a Flash animation, not an animated .gif. The GIF format supports 256 colors. That's your limit. When you produce a .gif from your working document, your color information is optimized for the palette. The GIF format is not well-suited to subtle color ranges. It is well suited to line ...

The 56 Kps is an estimate of how long it will take your image to download via 56-Kps modem. I don't believe there is a way to change that setting. I'm curious about why you would want to.

Don't expect Fireworks markup to be as sophisticated as Dreamweaver's. It was designed for creating web graphics. The code it produces is meant to be used for prototypes rather than fully developed web pages.

I don't believe Fireworks does CMYK, since it's primarily for web prototyping and design. Also, Photoshop keeps different proofing color profiles which may be what's causing the files to look different between Photoshop and other programs. You can see what color profile you're currently using by going to View>Proof Setup....

Anyone? Perhaps I need to be more clear. I'm creating a rounded corner box with text in the middle section. I've sliced the box up into 3 web slices with the middle section being a narrow graphic that I've selected as the background image. When I export all of this, it saves the html, the css and the graphics. This all works great except it's off by 1 pixel in the middle; it's too ...

What OS are you on? Which browsers are you testing? Are you sure the colors are different? Put Fireworks and a browser side by side and take a screen capture. Then sample the colors.

Unless this has changed in CS4, Fireworks is limited to displaying around 600 fonts.

I'm new to cs4 but fireworks up to this level has always created "automatic" slices. I'm pretty sure it still does. If you create a small slice in the middle of a large area, it should slice up to and beyond your small slice in the middle. I don't know much about inDesign but in Fireworks you can paste in vector drawings from illustrator. I thought inDesign was a page layout program? You ...

You've posted a .jpg. This is a flattened bitmap where the text has just become other colored pixels. Have you been saving as a .jpg or do you have a Fireworks' formated .png document where you have a background image and the text in separate vector text objects?

(I have CS3, but...) Try going to File > Image Preview. You should find three PNG options: PNG32 (full color plus alpha transparency - problematic for IE6) PNG24 (full color, no transparency) PNG8 ( 256 colors including semitransparent ones) For the advantages of PNG8, see http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2007/09/18/png8-the -clear-winner/ You should be able to choose these formats ...
