There's so much misinformation in this thread I feel compelled to point out a few things.   CS4 is a suite of products. Each has its own restrictions when saving files to be opened in earlier versions.   Photoshop has no save back feature at all. As long as you avoid new filters and features you should be okay. Illustrator should be fine but needs to be saved as CS3 InDesign as pointed out earlier in this thread must be...

You might see if the CS3 Cleanscript might help as strange as that sounds.   http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html

5 years now - sure - and to be honest, I'm happy with 5 years and an upgrade - I agree with your point totally. But look at my original post. CS2 stopped working properly after just 2 years. 2005 I bought CS2 and in 2007 upgraded to leopard. It's not like the whole suite crashed - it's jut a few irritating issues and that's why I can't accept that it was beyond Adobes capabilities to do what Microsoft and others do...

CS2 Upgrade will not take...
Published (2009-11-18 10:30:00)
I'm attempting to install the Adobe Creative Suite 2 software (upgrade version) on a new Mac we have purchased to replace the employee's current Mac with. In the process it's asking for a serial number for Photoshop 5.0 or newer. I've entered in 4 different Photoshop 7.0 serial numbers and also a Photoshop CS serial number and they all come back stating the serial number I've provided does not qualify.   I am...

Did I purchase the wrong upgrade?
Published (2009-11-23 14:48:00)
Thanks. I  assumed that since I didn't have the correct type of serial  number for the upgrade and was offered a trial version for 30 days,  that at the end of 30 days that there would be no payment necessary. I  have uninstalled the trial version - a few days before the trial ended.   However, I see that my credit card has been billed for the update. I  will take your advice and call...

Adobe has always recommended to save to the local HD then copy to the server. I know you are going to tell me that this is impractical. The bottom line is there are too many variables for Adobe to be responsible so they don't support it. Its up to your IT department to figure it out.

I no longer have Creative Suite 2 on any computer. But, as I recall, when Version Cue CS2 is installed, you should see an "Adobe Version Cue CS2" folder in the Applications folder. Within that folder, there should be an Uninstaller application. Run it. If that doesn't work, I have a list of files you can manually delete....

You should be fine. the only incompatibility issues will be with InDesign. You can backsave ID files by exporting as .INX Keep in mind any CS4 specific features will be lost in any of the applications. Buying CS3 from ebay is a disaster waiting to happen. 99% of the sellers are pirates who install malware along with CS3 in addition they will have your credit card number....

CS5 will be intel only. Photoshop will be 64-bit native, but I don't know how many other apps will be (that is what I remember reading, you can check John Nack's blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/04/photoshop_lr_ 64.html ). I don't know and don't care if it is Cocoa, Java or machine code as long as it runs well and is easy for Adobe to maintain....

Students can purchase the upgrade of the commercial version, but there is no student upgrade. Generally, the educational versions and now the student versions are cheaper or comparable to the upgrade price.

You cannot upgrade from the suite to an application. You need to upgrade from a suite to a suite.
