But using Acrobat is basically using PDF Maker through WORD, even if you don't think so. You might also check the preferences in Acrobat for the opening of a WORD document. I only have WORD 2007 at work and can't test that right now. When it was imported into WORD 2003, there were no useful links left. I can't comment further on the DOCX file until I can try it with WORD 2007.

At this point I am at a loss for answers. I've seen that error many times in these forums but have yet to see any definitive advice to fix that issue. Mostly just gets tossed out as a bug in version 9 of Acrobat or Reader.? Sorry. It should work.

48-bit color scanning

I cannot tell you how to fix the issue other than trying an updated driver. Generally, I recommend scanning directly in the software provided by the scanner and then importing the result into Acrobat or Photoshop. The only exception to this is when people buy scanning software that is better than what comes with the scanner like Hamrick Software's Vuescan: http://www.hamrick.com/

I think I screwed up, I used Windows Install Cleanup utility to delete them instead of the normal uninstall via control panel & now there is stuff that is still left that is not allowing the uninstall of the old version & the clean new version of acrobat to install properly & I cant unstall it out of control panel any more even though I can still see it. Any suggestions? I also used CCleaner to...

Michael, 'run the Micro soft Installer Cleanup tool' This has been done twice. every reference to adobe files, flash, shockwave, reader, acrobat, photoshop etc has been removed and registry cleaned of all references. Acrobat pro 9 was reinstalled without updates and portfolio function did not work, updates installed - still did not work, flash istalled - still did not work, reader 9 installed - still...

I know you are supposed to be able to. The problem is what I wrote. I opened the text edit toolbar. The highlighter is there now in the tool bar, but its grayed out. I am trying to figure out what setting might be wrong on the document that is no allowing me to highlight.

This is being caused by issues related to font subsets. If you can re-create the original documents with the font fully embedded the problem wouldn't exist. As an alternative you can use the PDF optimizer to remove font embedding and the use the preflight fixup to re-embed the fonts.

If I had to guess, the problem with the old pdf files probably has to do with font embedding. Is there any chance the fonts with the kashidas were not embedded. The second issue could also have to do with font embedding. Make sure when you create the pdf file, that the fonts are embedded. Use something like the Press quality job settings....

Acrobat must be using lexicographic ordering. You couldn't change the chapter 5 to chapter 05 could you? Let me check out the possibilities.

Update: Well, I got the TOC to work, by creating it as hyperlinks and not using page numbers. In checking the internal hyperlinks in the PDF, I found that some did convert correctly. I cannot find any difference in the Word document between the ones that worked and the ones that didn't. In fact, some links that do and do not work are right next to each other in the Word document. I ...

From what I'm reading, Acrobat 9 itself cant add images, I must use LiveCycle to create a PDF with a logo? Is that right?

You're not alone. I have the exact same problem. None of the Adobe updates fix this either; and not seeing any response from Adobe is making me wonder what's up. All I know is the Boss is getting pissed at the error every time he needs to view an Internet PDF.

Adobe is a company, not an application. So we'll need to nkow exactly what Adobe application and version you are using. If it's Adobe Reader, you won't be able to use those tools unless the creator of the file has enabled it for that use first.

There is no easy way to do this. It must be done manually.

All you can do is create a PDF that looks like what you print. If you can print it out properly, just open the web page, use File>Print, choose the PDF printer and use the exact same settings as you would with your physical printer. If you can't do what you want on a physical printer, you won't be able to do it in a PDF either....
