Hello Skippie!
Last year when I was in full on diet mode I just made sure to keep SB snacks on hand, nuts, SF Jello, an apple with PB. Also, since you know your friends will be bringing the un-SB-friendly dishes maybe make it your plan to only cook SB-friendly dishes so there isn't that temptation while cooking, like

LoL, yes it is normal, it IS water weight, usually it is the second or
third day that this starts but sounds like you are on track!
