Aspartame Question.
Published (2009-11-09 05:44:00)
Most folks would steer you away from aspartame toward splenda, if possible. (Including Drs. Atkins and Eades). Aspartame puts a bit of a load on the liver - processing the broken down chemical by products of aspartame. The liver is a key player in metabolism, increasing its load may slow down your weight loss (then again - it may not). Other things like alcohol/caffeine/nsaids/many prescription drugs also put a load on the liver, essentially...

Wow, congratulations to your daughter and you. She must be very happy about her progress so far. I wouldn't worry too much about not wanting to eat immediately in the morning. Not eating in the morning can be a problem if it means that later on she's much hungrier. Some people find that if they don't have some breakfast, they end up wanting to eat a lot in the evening and night. But other people do just fine in the morning with...

Not being hungry and not eating in the morning I found out much too late, was a bad idea and a sign of my hormones being off. Not eating in the morning just perpetuated the problem. But then I was a person who wouldn't eat much all day and then had a lot in the evening and even later. Which I found out, insulin late in the day screws up melatonin and prolactin too, messing with sleep and the beginning of the next day. When I started...

Has your daughter seen a GYN for possible PCOS--polycystic ovarian syndrome? Does she have regular periods? You mentioned Acanthosis Nigricans--does she have the darkened patches in her axilla, groin, around the neck area? Does she have skin tags? I'm sorry I'm not used to the measure of glucose that you're using but it sounds very much like diabetes. It cannot hurt to take her blood sugars...

I had arrhythmia during induction too, turned out to be a combination of low potassium and dehydration. For me it was worse in the morning or right after a meal. I still get it occasionally now if entering deep ketosis from lowering carbs a lot. It's best to keep hydrated and avoid too much caffeine.

It seems you get one golden shot with Atkins. It is never so fast the second time around. I'd just say hang on - the weight will come off in time. I'm not sure you are eating enough. If you starve yourself the body will slow your metabolism and hang on to your fat. I'd stick an extra meal in somewhere! Good luck.

don't forget that we are comparing a diet that's carb is mostly rice to the SAD which is mostly whatever carbs we can shove in our mouths. if we eat a burger, fries, and a soda, we have consumed way more carbs than a bowl of rice. as asians eat more carbs, their health heads in the same direction as ours....diabetes is very high in japan.

I think that kind of weight loss is sustainable only for a week or two. 2 or 3 pounds a week seems very sustainable. I've done it and I've seen many others do it. I have to think six pounds a week is water loss, not fat.
