I had chicken and squash for breakfast, then chicken salad (with carrot & mayo) for lunch. And then I got carby for dinner - fruit salad with yogurt & granola (just a little granola) then ... um, some chocolate. I really felt like having some chocolate. I'm in my post-chocolate glow now. I swear, that stuff is like heroin. I can't say I totally regret it - I know my gut would prefer that I keep the carbs down. But at...

poke, I've been prescribed cortison. What's that for? What are the side effects?

Quote: I bought some peanut butter, which is not paleo, but I love peanut butter on apples and I have taken to heart the idea that I need to not be too perfectionistic about this or I won't stick to it. Yeah, that is really good! I like peanut butter on apples too. Oh, a suggestion for your roast, cut it up finely and make hash out of it. Allison turned me onto hash recently and it was a great thing for a brisket I wasn't loving. I...

I've had the flu vaccine every year since 1996. My company offered them onsite for free so I figured why not? Except for a bit of sore arm afterwards I never had any reaction. They may not be offering them this year it looks like, and certainly won't be offering the H1N1 vaccine. I've been supplementing with 5000IU of D3 daily for most of this year and my D3 level is up to 58 so far, so I might jut forego the vaccine this...

I sometimes buy the large can (14.5 ounces) of Wild Alaska salmon and make salmon 'patties' out of it. Take the whole can, plunk into a bowl - add one egg, a smidge of green onion ends or fresh dill if you want (not necessary though). Mix with fork. Form carefully into 4-5 patties on a cutting board, flattening down with a spatula. Cook in a frying pan on medium heat for at least 14 minutes per 'side' before attempting to...

You don't usually need to remove bones from canned salmon, unless you personally dislike them, edgy. The process of cooking them inside the can makes them softened and edible the same way bones in canned sardines are edible. The cooked bones in canned salmon and sardines are a good source of minerals like calcium. Of course, if you hate them, then by all means pick them out. Good on you for doing the chicken and squash! Cooking slowly...

I responded in the "flu shot" thread as well, but the short answer to that question is, cortisone is the steroid that will help to reduce the inflammation that is swelling your breathing passages. You really do have to relieve that swelling if you want to continue breathing!

I vote for resting and staying low carb. Higher carb foods will feed bacteria, and you don't need a secondary infection. If you're not hungry, don't eat. Just sip water, tea or broth. Give your body a break. Have some scrambled eggs or broth when you feel better. IMO, there's a reason we lose our appetite when we're sick. Do you have someone who can buy something for you? My favorite cold/flu symptoms med is...

Hi Abby, Do you eat the coconut oil, use it on your face or both? How much a day? I just began. I read 3T but that was too much for me. 1T is about what I can comfortably do for now. How long did it take after eliminating grains and sugar (does that mean fruits too????) before seeing an improvement. Mine is no longer "mild" Thanks for helping. Terry

Look into the Paleo diet, I think it is excellent for autoimmune issues and especially gut issues.
I had an autoimmune condition clear up since going paleo.

Thanks both, I've cut out wheat and all sugar, including artificial sweeteners so hopefully next month will be less painful. I've had them since I was a child unfortunately - I used to get 4/5 month, but since having a small hole in my heart plugged I now solely suffer from menstrual migraines.

Your triglycerides are pretty high for a low carber but maybe that's the prednisone. Probably is since it screws around with blood sugar and tends to make people diabetic.

Well, if you have an infection the antibiotics can help you should probably take them. It would be kind of pointless to die of something, or get really sick from, we figured out how to cure 60 years ago.
Personally if I'm in a lot of pain I take something for it. I don't do it often, but why suffer needlessly any more than you must? But don't take tylenol, I read a report it might ...

I'd look for an OD (osteopath) or ND (naturopath). They may be somewhat bought into the lipid hypothesis but they probably won't try to prescribe statins.

It's common in ketosis, but if it happens that quickly you may get quite a boost out of it later on. Sometimes it can be hard to sleep, when that happens I find daily exercise helps.

Congratulations!
Maybe less body fat=less estrogen, therefore more testosterone? And isn't it testosterone that pushes the sex drive?
