Just a quick question Has anyone bought uk.net or uk.com names and successfully sold them on again I must admit that whilst surfing the internet these domains rarely appear in the search results. Is this as they are not bought or am i missing something here fil

Wellm y'know like, they are not "real domains" - they are all subdomains of uk. com or uk. net which are maintained and serviced like "real domains". As such, they have always appeared expensive to register, and harder to work with for SEO purposes, compared to a .com or .co.uk . They do come up for sale occasionally, and they are easier to get listed on search engines than formerly, but they are...

I own a few generic .uk.com domains and would expect to sell them one way or another in the future, but in essence they are worth far less than the .co.uk version.

If you go with fr.chateaudeplehaut you will be able to specify the subdomain as an individual site in google webmaster tools and set the target location to France.

It is best to put the actual domain names up, and invite comments.
Nobody can steal the idea, if you have registered it. The worst that can happen is that someone might develop a similar domain in a day or two, and "steal a march" on you. If it is a good name, that advantage can be killed in a few days.

Rationally, it depends on keyword search values. Search volumes should give an estimate of expected revenue, so they should give a comparative evaluation.
So, go to keyword tool, search key words on exact, location US, and exact, location UK.
Example keywords: penetrating oil
Exact searches for US in October, 1900
Exact searches for UK in ...

Whilst I'm not a 3 letter expert, I would say that traditionally these have traded around the £500 level. However, I'm sure it is very dependent on the letters whether you can make a sale, and even if you don't have any of the really bad letters, the quick sale required to flip would not be guaranteed.
