Minocycline problem
Published (2009-11-12 13:40:00)
I have no idea what could have procured that reaction, but it's a good thing that you stopped taking the medication. Antibiotics, especially long term usage, is dangerous. Not because the side effects could harm you (there is a chance they could, but it's not large), but because it makes your cells resistant to medications, medications you might direly need if you ever got a serious illness. I was on Doxycyline for 18 months and I...

I just started taking mino 5 days ago and I have already have horrible migraines for the past 3 days. I just called my doctor and she is calling in a new prescription for me tomorrow. I don't understand why they give people this if it messes them up so badly.

QUOTE (RobDude @ Nov 11 2009, 12:28 PM) Antibiotics work against acne because they help your body fight off/kill the p. acne bacteria, right? So, where do you *originally* get that bacteria from? According to the internet, acne is *not* contagious. So, how does that work? If you get strep throat - another bacterial infection...you have it until your body fights it off. Then it's *gone*. Until you get re-infected. If the...

Hair loss

It is rare for doxycycline to cause hair loss but it does happens. What you can do now is to stop taking doxycycline and see if your hair recover a few months later. Hopfully it does. This post has been edited by Max- : Yesterday, 07:34 PM

I know. Ive heard this over and over and over again. Im using antibitocs while my skin adjusts to Ziana/Bp treatment ive been doing for about 2 1/2 months. I learned my lesson when i only took mino and didnt use topicals. Thanks for trying to help, but I know they are not useful long term. My question is. Who has had success with taking minocycline and than switching to doxycycline, im not looking for someone to tell me antibiotics are bad. I...

Doxycycline making acne worse?
Published (2009-11-12 13:55:00)
I have just got on Doxycycline after Oxytetracycline failed miserably. I had a short stint on Erythromycin but problems eventually arose with that. I like how this is one a day though. Well for me it is anyway. I can go out and not have to worry about missing a dose. Plus, I can eat with it, which is a plus. I'm beggining to lose faith in antibiotics to be honest. To me antibiotics always had that stigma of being a very effective acne...

QUOTE (xandrine100 @ Nov 5 2009, 07:25 PM) this is just for pure antibiotics, i'm not much sure for benzamycin knowing it has benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin as a combi gel, you may want to read this site: http://www.bioskinclear.com/acnemedicine/ (You can just wash your face with the standard twice a day, maybe you can ask your derm if u can use a moisturizer if it's too drying for you.. Your medication has to be...

Well I'm on a maintenance dose of minocycline (1 x 50mg a day) and I'm very happy with the results. Topical products like benzoyl peroxide, retin a, dalacin t have always irratated and inflamed my face. Since I'm acne prone all over my face I would have to apply these topicals on all areas, because I've been told that spot treatment is not the best way to treat my acne. I don't want to go ...

It is not very surprising you could be resistant to tetracycline. You will become resistant to antibiotics eventually so I am shocked that your doctor would think that you cannot.

Well I'm sorry to hear that it's not working for you, but I would recommend maybe gradually reducing your dose if your dermatologist really wants you to stay on the medication. Whatever dosage you take, take half of that for a couple weeks and see how you do. Things might get better. =)

I think it's a good idea that you are stopping the antibiotics. They seem to be doing much more harm than good at this point. I know that this is hard to hear, and maybe you won't take my advice, but I'm going to offer it anyways. What topicals have you used? If you do a quick search through the boards here you will see that there are numerous ways to treat acne, and the key is finding ...

It's good that you contacted your derm and decided to change to something else. My advice would be to stay away from antibiotics. They will never completely 'cure' your acne (if there is such a thing), they simply treat the outward symptoms. What else have you used in the past? There are a ton of options and honestly, Accutane should be your last option. I know it can get frustrating ...

The only reason I would not recommend doing this is because you can still develop a resistance to the antibiotic. There is also the chance that it will become ineffective after a while.

The way in which bacteria acts is pretty complicated. Here is a site if you are really interested in learning: http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/...Eubac teria.html How antibiotic resistance works is that when you take a certain medication for a period of time (that period of time varies), the cells you have adjust to the 'invaders' so to speak, and modify themselves. ...

Dont let your doctor tell you you have to go through tons of stuff before getting better. Remember the DOC WORKS FOR YOU. I recommend a new doctor. Anyways, I was on mino for a week and cleared me completely in like 2 days it most god. Unfortunetly I almost died of brain side effects so i had to get off it quick. Went to Doxy last week and had the same problems as well as a major outburst...

You won't get cure from all this antibiotics that you are taking. Yes, it will bring relieve for a while and make you feel look good and confident. But antibiotic no longer works after sometimes and you have to either increase your dose or switch to another types of antibiotic to continues to stay acne free. Your body will however, become resistant to all kinds of antibiotic that you used ...

I heard that it can mess with biotin absorption or something like that, so if i were you i would definitely look into a good multi vitamin with a lot of b vitamins, and get yourself some biotin to take. Thats what i do. I take this multi http://www.rainbowlight.com/Categories~Cat...7e59a fd2d9.html It has a lot of b vitamins and really seems to help with energy levels and just makes ...

As you had a sore throat before the minocycline I would probably say it's just a cold or flu. Stay with the mino but if you get really worried about continued problems go and see your family doctor.

QUOTE (christina2248 @ Sep 17 2006, 06:28 PM) I've been on minocycline on and off (mostly ON) for about 5 or 6 years... yeah I really would like to get off of it though, it's been long enough. I've had breakouts during it (especially the past couples of months) but I have hormonal issues that I need to fix. Otherwise I like it, but it hasn't always worked for me. But if you have no ...
