WIFI that works anywhere -is it...

Sorry, what I meant was if I enter a hotel or guesthouse with WIFI & the Windows or MAC users can connect without difficulty, I want my linux based aspire one to do the same. As it is, I can stay at 4 hotels where the wifi works and it then decides not to work at the 5th hotel, when I can see other guests using laptops without trouble. I can hardly change the router settings, therefore need a Netbook that can show some flexibility.

Problem connecting to homehub
Published (2009-12-28 02:22:00)
Hi Ged. I hope you've found a solution by now. I had exactly the same issue. I'm not sure what cleared it up as I tried a number of things at the same time: 1. Moving things like screens, wireless phone cradles and power supplys away from the Hub. 2. Hub updates happen automatically, one happened recently. 3. I connected the acer to the Hub with a live usb distro. Hub still remembers the acer as Knoppix. Did you know there's a...

Secure wireless
Published (2009-12-26 04:01:00)
Hi I have a new Aspire One running XP, the wireless only works with our linksys router if security is disabled. If I try to use wpa or wep the acer see's the wireless point as a low strength signal and will not connect. Any ideas?? thanks Josh

No idea about Linksys. Be sure you've visited Microsoft Update and installed the latest Atheros driver (shown as an "optional" download there if you don't have it.) That update makes a real difference to performance. If a reality check helps, my own signal shows up as "excellent" all green bars any room in a condo, on a list of about twenty that extends down to businesses and homes several blocks...

Shoop, Are you using win XP? win7, linux? Windows zero configuration for wireless usually works good with minimal effort. Is your router set up for secure connection wpa, wep ? Jim

Purchased an Acer Aspire One for my daughter for Christmas. Cannot get it to connect to the Router. States "Validating Identity" and goes no further. HP Pavilion is working fine on the router so It has to be the Acer's configuration or Network card. Anyone else have this problem and how did you resolve it? Netgear unable to help.

Awesome, thanks for the link, finally I've been able to use windows 7 backup utility over my network successfully. Been trying for a couple of days with the 7.6.0.264 drivers with no success so i decided to try and find a driver on here. Tried the win7 drivers from your link and BAMMM completed first time. My backup image was about 8.5gb, my wifi was fully utilised for about 1hr35mins, only ...
