Query Theory: Blurb vs Query?

Quote: No, definitions of "jacket copy" do not vary. It's not an opinion. Both "blurb" and "jacket copy" are technical terms. A " blurb" is an endorsment, a statement of how good the novel is, whether taken from a review, or given by another writer, etc. "Jacket copy" is always the synopsis of the novel itself. It's on the inside dust jacket of...

I think you're right, popmuse. Look at it this way--if they're that unprofessional and rude, how well are they thought of by publishers? Methinks you had a few lucky escapes. Me too.

Dear Jennifer,
I love you.
Doing this qualifies you for sainthood in some religions.
That is all.

Hi Nathan
As you have posted a myspace profile I would like to ask whether you think it is an effective marketing tool for non-fiction authors and give us some tips. I notice you have other authors in your circle of friends on myspace and you appear to be active in adding friends. Does this work on a business level (e.g. increased traffic to your blog)
Should we be adding these authors to...

Just send her a follow-up e-mail and let her know what happened. It may be a little embarrassing, but not nearly as bad as them finding out that you didn't follow their guidelines later down the line.
(And congrats on the requests.)

After three months, unless otherwise specified in their submission guidlines, I would think you're safe in contacting them on a follow up.
Publishers usually take longer, like Tor and DAW and can take 6-12 months, but they clearly state that in ther submission guidelines.
For an agent, I can not believe it would take that long unless they are on hiatias...

The difference between the cover blurb vs. a query letter is that one of the samples is attached to a published book. That might seem like a very basic difference, but in fact it opens up a lot of things.
If a reader picks up a book in a store and reads the blurb, there is an intrinsic promise: This book is worth your time. It's been past publishers, editors, agents--it's a full story, it's ...

Here's some interesting stats from querying my latest novel.
Queries: 18
Requests: 5 Fulls, 1 Partial
"Not for Me" 3
No answer 9!!!!
*The request for pages all came within a day (sometimes within an hour) of the original email. Two of the three "not for me" only came after I followed up with another query (under the pretext that my email wasn't working right).

They could be overloaded with work or have a full client list. Or they get clients through referrals.

I suggest you check out the agency on Predators and Editors. They'll tell you if an agency/agent is legit or not. Also browse though the Bewares and Backround Check section to hear about other authors stories with an agency.
