I was reading the posts here for setting the permissions on slave drives that are password protected and were denying access to the users. I am having the same problem but when I followed the directions on how to gain access, it would not work for me. When I clicked on the TOOLS section, FOLDER OPTIONS, VIEW, I found that there is no ADVANCED tab to click. I am using XP and the ...

The Group Policy snap-in, along with its extended snap-in, Local Security Policy, provide numerous settings under User Configuration, but I can't find a way to apply these to individual User accounts. Is this possible, or can these snap-ins only be used to apply settings for all accounts, using the same settings? Surely there is some way an administrator can make specific settings...

My brother just gave my Mom an old machine running Windows XP Professional. My brother had given his account a password. My mother doesn't need a password. It is hard enough to get her to use the machine in the first place! Is there any way to remove the password from the administrator's account so my mom doesn't have to enter it? Thanks Kent

This particular issue is troubling me. The computer in question was working fine in the domain. Then yesterday, the customer could not print anymore. Our Helpdesk noticed she could not log on to the machine and had to use remote desktop to the IP address to take a look. After noticing the system did not have access to network resources, she tried to take the system out of the ...

I am close to wit's end. I recently installed Edison to help save energy. After sleep or hibernation, the login password is always asked for. I have unchecked the appropriate box in Power Management, corrected the registry, and changed the setting in gpedit.msc. Nevertheless, the logon is stilled required, and the box in the Power Management is rechecked (without my input). I ...

My XP desktop died and I bought a new Vista Business PC. I salvaged my old SATA HDD and installed it in the new PC. I can access all of the files except the ones in an encrypted folder. Any suggestions how to gain access to these files? Jeff

I would like to copy a shared folder, which has many sub folders with different permissions on them, from a hard drive to another hard drive while keeping the permissions on the all folders, and sub-folders in Windows XP. Is there a way I can copy all the folders and sub-folders with the existing permissions on them? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Our IT shop had encountered an issue on some of our users getting errors that their profile storage space is going over the limit. I later found out that it's due to the Local Settings folder being included on the roaming profile, instead of being excluded. (We have a 50 MB limit on our profiles) I also noticed that the Local Settings folder had been copied over to the ...
