Hi I do not know the reason for the extra connection between the Desktop and the Laptop. Configuring Direct access on top of regular Network is not advisable unless you know how to configure a Bridged connection. You are better Off connecting every thing through the Wireless Router and configure correctly the File sharing. Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. I have just installed a new computer with a new install of WinXP Pro on my network. The computer can connect to the internet over the network. When I click on "My Network Places", I get an empty window. What do I need to do to see the other computers and the devices on the network. I don't remember having this problem in the past. TIA Joe

I have a problem intermittently with a Delayed write failure; source MRxSmb evident ID 50, Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \device\lamanRedirector, data is lost. Thanks a lot for your response.
I have a 2WIRE wireless gateway/access point that combines a router and a
modem. It also has a hardware firewall. I don't have any probems with the
wireless access -- so far.
I'm looking for a USB bridge cable now.
