Sounds like the RF output channel of the Sky box could be clashing with the local trerrestrial channel frequencies.
The default on a Sky box is Channel 68 (although you're may have been changed?)
Try different RF Output frequencies not forgetting to retune the TV each time.
See here under Installer setup>RF outlets on how to do it

Without a phoneline of any kind in your house you can't have Sky multiroom - because both boxes must be connected to the same phoneline.
If you only had one phone connection point in your house you could still have Sky multiroom - by using a wireless DECT phone extender to connect the second box (wherever you site it) to
the one phone connection point, which is presumably close to where the ...

998 everytime and then search for listings ...

The box reverts to Ch998 after a power cut or sometimes after a
software update.
Have you tried a Forced Software update?

If it's
Cat5 you're likely to have problems over that distance.
The question is how much effort will it be to replace a cable that doesn't do the job?

Try a forced download as this seems to cure a multitude of problems
Sky Digibox software - forced downloads
Against which postcode was the card activated?
This shouldn't be necessary, but if the card has been out of the box for any
length of time it may have missed the 'keep-alive' signal. Left in a switched on/standby box it will update within 72 hours (usually much less). but I think...
