you want to wake up your kit from outside ? from the internet? through a firewall ..think about it..... then tell me why any router manufacturer claiming to have a secure product to protect your network from the outside world, would leave it wide open for anyone to send packets through.....

You most likely need to setup an AD-HOC wireless network between your laptop and Iphone. I do it this way when i need to SSH into my Iphone or use internet tethering. Do do it on vista just go to network center and do create a network. EDIT, didnt read that far, my bad. Yea you will need a one to one network. You should still be able to use the wifi through the phone aslong as your laptop ...

Won't work. You need the ethernet cable from the virgin modem to go to the switch, then the ethernet cables from the switch can go to the pc and all your devices.

I think you have reached the limitation of what a PS3 used as a media server can deliver from a hard drive...simple as that really what hard drive is doing the serving of the data? you are right in that gig ethernet will rightly give you about 100-120MB/s of throughput (with the right spec clients), but most single hard drives wont give you a sustained read of that ....the odd burst ...
