FWIW...every mixing studio I have been in, large or small, uses monopole speakers for all channels. IMO, dipoles/bipoles are best used in tricky rooms, but you can not get discrete directional sound from them, whereas with monopoles, engineers can get the dispersed sound when needed.

Warp - I appreciate you bringing this up. As of right now, on average, we watch 1 movie per night, we're Netflix addicts, so we really want something that will sound good for movies. For audio we only have a small Teac system that we fire up for background noise. With that being said we both love music but don't have a good system so when we finally make our purchase I'm sure we'll be listening to lots more! My guess at...

a low end Harman Kardon receiver is a good choice IMO - pretty. Sony makes a big 3 way bookshelf with kevlar drivers that honestly sounds good. That is a good sub $500 system. I am sure other ppl will recommend internet direct speakers - if so make sure that they have a decent sized box if there is really no sub.
Best bet that I know of? Used B&W 6 or 3 series - I know that they sound good ...

I just upgraded my main speakers from JBL G300 to the JBL Balboa 30. I am looking for a more substantial center than the JBL Balboa center (prefer 3 way versus 2 way). I am looking at the JBL EC 35, but no luck finding it online (besides amazon).
Anyhow, my max budget is 200 with shipping, so are there any recommendations? I see the LC1 and LC2 and ...

I've seen quite a bit of praise for those insignia's. From my search for a
new setup I'd say take a look at the ascend 170 bookshelves. I do believe
they are wall mountable and the b stock seems to be a real good value.

Well I come in at the lower end of the Dynaudio spectrum - I have Audience
52 for fornt speakers, Audience 42c centre and 42 rears, I drive them with
a NAD T773 receiver. They are superb, they out perform any other bookshelf
within twice their price range in my honest opinion. I had no brand bias
when auditioning for this system, they simply came out miles in front. Give
them plenty of power and ...

You guys are great! Thanks for the input. I will get the center and upgrade
my receiver.
Now does anyone have a recommendation for decent $500-$600 receiver that is
a good match for a Monitor Audio Silver 5i's? Or is there not much
differentiation between receivers in this price range?
I'm guessing my best bang-for-the-buck will probably be another Onkyo, a
Yamaha, or a Denon as that is all I ...

Don't worry too much about trying to match the rears, they don't get very much workload compared to the front 3. This is especially true if you're using your system almost entirely for tv/movies.
Since you're in a condo you probably won't need 'intense' bass but I'd still spend most of your remaining money on the subwoofer. If you have $500 for a sub and rear 'in-ceiling' speakers then I'd ...

If you can explain how any accurate speaker is good for one form of sound and not the other I'd appreciate it. If a 'musical' speaker exists that cannot do HT it probably isn't doing music justice either.
I don't think any such thing exists - there are some who will argue the point - but I don't argue.

If you're adding height, I'd look for something that matches your mains but is small and easy to mount. I'd say sats, small bookshelfs, or possibly in-wall. For you, a pair of M2s would probably work well, as would the W2 in-walls.

Has anyone owned the Jamo E680 they seem pretty nice looking but am unble to try them out...B&H in new York has them but they don't have a listening room. I am considering the Energy C500's but would love to know hoe they compare. Anyone own Jamo? Not popular in the states even though they have good write-ups...hope this thread is not dead.

Anybody using thease towers for video? Any problems? I have a Sony 50 " LCD RPTV
Local dealer told me this is only a problem with regular "tube type" tvs.
It does not affect LCD, DLP, etc.
