"The other reason is that when you heavily EQ any system, for example, pulling down 15dB peaks at the top end of the DTS-10, it sounds like a compressor has been heavily applied." it is probably the phase that is getting all screwed up with high q, high db, filters. some say phase changes can't be heard in base. i'm not so sure. applying low q filters shouldn't ruin a system. pulling down the top end or...

"Here's what I don't get: You have 4@18" M-X drivers. What added effort/cost are you talking about?" Actually only two are in operation. But that's a good question. Not sure, but I don't know think I have response as low as you; it's whatever I 'm getting from auto EQ. But I don't think I've experienced what others have talked about w/WOTW for example. I'm also hindered...

dbldare, I am not going to quote your post since it is so big, but yes I was talking about some thing along the lines of the first picture except heavier made. I used to have some 20' long aluminum extrusions (1/8" thick) that would have worked pretty well for this. I sold them for scrap back last year when aluminum was high.

That amp should run the driver you've got with no issues whatsoever. Can you measure the driver impedance to make sure its seeing 4 ohms? When you did the fan swap is the new fan still blowing the same direction? Is the fan coming on when its supposed to?

Finished My Ed 18 inch sono's
Hey Guys,
I finally finished my first DIY project. I built 4 (Ed 18 inch drivers) 24 inch round and 6 feet tall sono's. I learned first hand the good and the not so good. The sono's actually came out different sizes and one of the ports were bigger than the others. You would think and 8 inch port was 8 ...

You'd be much better of reversing your approach and doing a passive top end and active bottom with seperate amplification as those freq require more power and passive components to do a 70 Hz HP ain't cheap. A simple stereo 2way active Prosound XO will have more flexibility and will be cheaper than a passive pair for sure.

Multiple LLTs
Pros
- in room response
- footprint
Cons
- More power requirements
- Higher total cost (possibly).
DTS-10s
Pros
- High sensitivity, low distortion
- Less power requirements to obtain very high in room SPL
Cons
- Huge foot print
- Less positioning flexibility that could effect in room response.
That is just off the top of my head.

I'd guess you have about 15-18 cu.ft. internal space to work with. If it were me, I'd beef up and then seal off the interior space of what you already have. Then mount a single 18" sub to a baffle and tune it real low with an 8" diameter vent. It'll give you clean, low bass if you use a quality 18" sub.
Btw, I would also fill the floor under the deck with sand.
Btw, when I say "...

COOOOOOOOOL!!!!
Questions--what will be recommended power requirement? Impedance? Where will the "mouth" of the horn be located(thinking about placement)?
