Corrupt AVI

Has anyone had trouble with your avi's being corrupted like the attached file. This seems to be occurring in the hidden line and shaded with edges view formats only. A rendered view looks fine. It does not appear to be file size related since it occurs on an avi with as little as 10 frames. The frames are all full size, not compressed. At first I thought it might be a codec compatibility problem but with the rendered version working ok...

Carl, agree have had same problems with Media Player and Revit avi files. I gave up on MP..am tired of having to switch between Real Player, Quicktime and Media Player to get a result. A solution to this, is to give up on Revit animation and get a generic solution where file exchange with others is possibly better implemented (or shall we say, implemented differently) and that can work with a range of other solutions into the bargain. Its not...

I got some really good workflow info from Jeffrey McGrew's Model to Marvelous class at AU, specifically about addressing lighting and exposure early, before dealing with materials and entourage. I also really liked the trick Phil Read showed in the Film and Screen class for using Phases to map a single white material to everything for a rendering that is all about form. Now I am wondering if you can put the two together, and basically...

I'm rendering a scene using a background colour rather than one of the default skies. An area of reflective steel material shows the sky to be black, not the background sky colour I select. Any ideas why? Malc.

With all the latest hardware coming out end of this year, will iRay be integrated with Revit's Mental Ray?

Hi Carl, thanks for your very good post about this issue - it is insightful as a WIP and a useful addition in the scheme of things for this aspect of design / marketing communication. I just bought Luxology Modo to get proper animation capabilities (and a full high quality commercial rendering solution with things that Revit and mr will probably never have, like motion blur, fog, ...

After exhausting all troubleshooting possibilities, I have not been able to find an adequate solution. I have resigned to using the 3DS Max 2010 32-bit version (instead of the 64-bit). As no one has responded to my posts in the several forums I addressed, I am assuming this is a freak incident and hope it will be resolved with the next hotfix.

Could be a number of issues but I am going to ask you to look at the 2 most common ones I come across. Clean out your temp files before setting up a rendering. For some odd reason if it is full it tends to cause crashes. The other thing you need to consider is your operating system. If it is Xp 32bit with 4gb of ram then make sure you have the 3G switch enabled as it will help. If it is Vista you...

You have to buy better RPC objects. You can buy 3D RPC objects so you don't have this problem.

there is a website brick.com that has a download program to design your own brick patterns... these can be used as texture file for rendering... it is easy to use and has unlimited outcomes... might be worth trying in your case?
