CADD Action Plan
Published (2009-12-21 16:12:00)
Often overlooked but essential to any action plan is to consider the following in addition to the previous contributions: Review existing work practices for design workflow and project scheduling from conceptual design to project deliverables - how this is done can affect how you develop/implement your CAD methodology. Review existing Quality control procedures, Standard Operating procedures, Engineering standards and business practices - you...

CADD Action Plan
Published (2009-12-21 13:46:00)
Jason, It would be difficult to boilerplate an action plan for your company from an example. I would start this way: 1. Identify the needs of the company for the near term - i.e. expansion, contraction, survival. That will help determine what should be done about CAD with regard to implementation and training. Align your recommendations to those goals and show that they are aligned. 2. Hold session[s] with the other Techs to identify areas...

Choosing a new Autodesk Product
Published (2009-12-28 23:30:00)
Hi all - We are currently looking for new CAD solutions to streamline our most frequent tasks, while at the same time pushing into the new decade with modern technology. Our primary CAD functions consist of mechanical and structural 3D design, specifically piping system design, platform designs, catwalk design, and others specific to the construction of liquid and dry food product process systems. We currently model everything in 3D using a...

Ok, so actually, Robert Green did a series of articles about this topic. They are over at Cadalyst.com. Start here - http://www.cadalyst.com/management/b...er-column-6 048 and then you can also use the search tool near the upper right of that page and search for "action plan". You will get a wealth of articles by Robert on that topic. The link I gave you also contains Robert's sample plan. Hope ...

Why not place the ARX in AutoCAD's install folder? We do that in 2010 and have no issue with the application.

When you say 'only windows standard user permissions' do you mean on a by machine basis or via domain logon? We found years ago each user had to be setup in the 'power user' group to get AutoCAD or any Autodesk software to work properly. This may have changed now but with a large pool of users I think we take the view, if it ain't broke... The hierarchy of groups means the workstations ...

autodesks list for Windows 7 is at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...&siteID=123 112 This only covers the AutoCAD based products, but search for Windows 7 on the Autdesk website and you will find many of the applications are not fully tested on Windows 7 yet. Be sure to read the link about known limitations with Windows 7 at this time. I believe most of not all of the heavy weight ...

Ok,here is an update. The user said all of the tools were working this morning. then they stopped without a reboot or closing AutoCAD. I changed the support files pathing so that all the local files come before network files (except for our font directory). Do you suppose this could have caused an problem? BTW, I ended up changing them back because the new order caused other problems.

Using either AutoCAD or Trueview, the publish command is about as automatic as it gets. I'm not aware of any (publicly available) tools for batch plotting, with the exception of Acroplot (plot to PDF only).
