Grey card? Never carry one, but its a good idea to try. My lenses are in barrel... So I either use the sinar copal shutter (which is great since I can put my yellow or red filter behind the lens), or dark slide. Leatherman and Harrison changing tent. When I change film, I mark A4 envelopes with each gps location, date and development instructions, then in the tent, put negs in envelopes, then in the black bag where the photo paper is kept in a...

Thank you so much! I had expected one or maybe two answeres (with only a few hours left before departure), but never that much. Well, travelling light on the first time seems to be the right thing to do. Weather will not be perfect either (at least it should not be flooding, but there might be snow on monday), and checking my fridge I found I had lots of 35mm XP2, but only two rolls in 120 format. The rest of my roll films is PAN F, and in...

TRIP TO ICELAND,
Published (2009-12-10 15:17:00)
Hi, I am planning a trip to Iceland In August 2010. I will go solo . My idea is to trek AND to make photos. My equipment is quite heavy as i mainly use a Pentax 67 with 3 or 4 lenses + tripod. I will also have to carry a small tent + sleeping bag etc... Iceland is not a very big country but when you walk , short distances can become very long. I fact i think 2 short treks of 4 days would be ideal as i will stay 2 weeks. So I am looking for any...

Would it be unseemly of me to suggest a ca. 19 year old Icelandic gal to carry your film for you?

Bjork would be a treat, if a little temperamental; she doesn't like cameras... PS: Trim down that load, way down. You'd be looking at something like 25 to 40kg with basics: that is too much. One camera body+one lens and a light tripod.

TRIP TO ICELAND,

Given the size of your load, and the changeable weather of most parts of at least coastal Iceland, I would think seriously of renting a car, or if you plan to do that, reduce the length of your treks or the amount of equipment. One reason I recommend the car if at all possible is that there is so many photogenic parts of Iceland, and some of the best scenery is a significant distance from Reykjavík. Snaefellsness is beautiful, so is a...

Films and Labs in Singapore
Published (2009-12-08 08:19:00)
Hello, I'm new to analog photography (in the old days I've only been using digital cameras) and while I've my local suppliers and processing labs at home, I'm taking my camera (Contax 139 with Zeiss Planar T* 50mm/1.4, 85mm/1.4 and Distagon T* 28mm/2.8) for the first time on vacation ... and we're going to Singapore. Since I don't want to travel with many unexposed films I'm looking for places to get them in...

Depends on how you like to shoot. If you like to travel light and shoot street scenes and people, leave the TLR behind. If you intend to shoot some of the architecture, then by all means bring both cameras. For that matter, a Rollei TLR can be a great machine for street shooting, too... So maybe leave the Leica behind instead. I'm not helping much, am I?

Diane/colrehogan is in St. Louis. Dunno if she accepts this sort of job, but can't hurt to ask her.

Hi John,
I spent the summer there on a business trip perhaps similar to yours.
Few in the general population speak English or other European languages. As I do not speak Arabic, to get around town on my own I asked someone to write the destination on a piece of paper that I showed to taxi drivers. Worked fine.
Tripoli is a friendly place, smiles and interest with foreigners etc. It has...

I haven't got an answer for you, but I'd ask the hotel staff. I remember a photo shop or two around Tianamen but couldn't give you directions. I'm jealous, by the way.
