It sounds like a wonderful, wonderful trip for all of your family, Joanne. I'm so glad you were able to experience the real NYC! I wish I hadn't missed Ash's closeup but I completely missed the jumpropers somehow. While my brother and SIL are here, we'll be skyping with my sister so it should be a nice afternoon. Have a good day tomorrow with your brother and sister and their families, Caroline. :-) Linda ~Lv2Cook~ You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces - just good food from fresh ingredients. I loved sharing Thanksgiving with different families this year and enjoyed the variations on the menu and techniques.I am curious about a couple of things, When I use romaine lettuce I use the whole leaf unless it was really tough or blemished. I watched a salad being made and she removed every bit of the center stem. I seem to remember it being used in restaurants but wondered does anyone else stem...

I am not sure what I enjoyed more, feeding so many hungry people or watching teenagers voluntarily peel potatoes, do dishes and work in a kitchen while having a great time. Most of them said they can't wait to do it again. :) Our local newspaper was filled with stories and photos of teens who were volunteering at various shelters and soup kitchens. It made me feel so good to know that this compassion is alive and well. Our...

Mary, I typically tear the lettuce off the stem, but I think it is personal preference. And with the dishwashers, I think the newer ones just don't need as much rinsing as original versions......so that is probably where the difference is......habits! high school boy who had clearly volunteered there before and who was quite proud of his 40 lbs of mashed potatoes (which he mashed by hand with a household potato masher!) told them he was there every week and had put in 90 hours in 4 months. You could tell he was having a good time with it. I talked to him later and told him that I was quite impressed with his commitment. He smiled and said, "Yeah. It's...

After getting the turkey into the oven I decide to take a quick shower. I have Brian and the DDs stationed in front of the TV. As I'm getting out of the shower, I hear all sorts of shouting. Then I clearly hear, "JUMP ROPERS, MOM!!" I come flying out of the shower, dripping, and get to see them!! (DD#1 wants me to mention I was 'hastily wrapped in my robe.' ...

I'm not setting foot into a grocery store for at least a week, so I'm only "shopping" from the freezer and pantry. I'm trying to do the same thing, Abbie (dinner post to follow). And while I've loved having this past week off I, too, am (sorta <g>) looking forward to getting back to work. We'll see how it is when I actually *get* to work tomorrow. Linda ~Lv2Cook~ ...

i have considered it but currently using the landline for several reasons. with me the cell phone has only okay recetion and verizon has been great with the landline service. I never use all my hours so what I am considering since I want to keep the landline is to cancel the long distance, get a calling card for long distance when I can't get recpetion with the cell phone.

A bowl of soup and half sandwich at Panera. Dh ate a turkey sandwich for lunch, and dd wanted pizza tonight before going back, so we called ahead to our favorite place to pick up a couple of small ones and a salad. Now they're watching Angels and Demons. What a nice day for you, Abbie. Dh and I watched Angels and Demons today and enjoyed it. It was a nice relaxing day. ~...

This year I did things a little differently. I bought a "fancy" (ie more expensive than others) gift, a GPS, for oldest son and his GF and then will be also giving them each some Pampered CHef things. I also got them each a $10 gift card for Yoville, a game we all play on Facebook. I got middle son a really nice sweater from LL Bean (using a $10 gift card I got for ordering youngest's present)...

Linda- Keeping up with those free-standing (and refrigerator attached for that matter) freezers is a job. Like you, I did a little digging today and realized I have been saving bread for my dressing in abundance! I will need to take a cue from Joan and Rose and get some breadcrumbs made. On the other hand, I keep all my flours/baking goods in my refrigerator-attached freezer and I haven't ...

Nancy, you have such a full day planned. I love reading all about it. My day has started out in the office, but I just got an email from my new boss! We are leaving at noon today instead of the vague 2 - 3 pm my old boss said! She is such an ass! :) So out the door at 12 for me. From there I am heading to the fish market. Joe is cooking half the dinner tonight - that's code for ...

Your whole menu sounds wonderful, Caroline. I've tried the cranberry chevre log from Trader Joe's, and it is good. I bought their two cranberry sauces yesterday, both very good. One is with orange and bit sweeter, and the other tarter. Dh will only have the canned jellied kind with the lines, and none of us care for that. Let us know how the pie is. Abbie well behaved women ...

I was feeling a little blue and missing the kids and my family. I decided to heck with that and made 3 perfect deviled eggs and opened a bottle of bubbly and enjoyed my relaxed morning and reminded my self different does not mean bad. Mary, that is so true, and something I've been thinking about too. It was a nice day here, but I found myself fighting that tinge of melancholy, ...
