Well, almost happy... I checked my RMA status online, and it shows the re-stocking charge (which I am going to ask if they can waive), and it also shows two charges for a combo discount and some other instant discount I got when I bought the original 965. I've emailed my customer service rep back to see if she can waive those charges too, as I still have the motherboard and RAM that I bought with the original processor and got the combo...

Life is good!!!! I'm also expecting delivery of my EVGA GTX 285 RMA replacement on Thursday. I'm hoping to break P16000 Vantage score with the new 965 & GTX 285.

amd athlon firmware update?
Published (2009-11-11 11:18:00)
Not knowing what motherboard you have but, usually can update straight to the latest version. Important! Make sure the motherboard revision is the correct one for the BIOS version you are going to update. Failing this, may kill the board. This info is usually in the release notes of the BIOS.

amd athlon firmware update?

Hi, Yes I took the the # and entered it in their search and came up to the right list. That part was easy. I did some reading on the flash update that was suggested and research the instructions that was mentioned and cautioned. When I understood the method I doubled checked that I had entered the #. I still had the box with info (even the plastic bags). I took a deep breath and followed the instructions with the understanding that I could end...

Yeah, it should be ok. Does your current bios support the 965 125W? As far as the MSI MB is concerned you could always watch NewEgg for that MB to show up as an open box item. MB's as open box at NewEgg (if I remember correctly) are around $50 below their normal listed price. I have bought at least two MB's that way and both looked to be new unopened items. Maybe I'm just lucky. Good luck with the new processor.

Asus has the new bios listed for my mb. But it is not posted yet. I am sure it will be any day. I have saw several Msi open box one's over the past couple weeks. That was another reason I was not in a hurry to get one. I am gonna hold off yet on a mb.

6Gb? You know only intel can run tri-channal memory right. you'll be better off with 4 or 8 Gb than you can run in dual channal. And a 1000w psu is a slight over kill for what you need. A 750w would work real nice for those 5770's

The board I'm using in my main rig has been rock solid since the day I got it.
It also only as a four pin cpu power connector so you can keep your old psu.

This is not a fast board. Add a cooling fan on the north bridge and heat sink on the south bridge. Ensure good case air flow. Disable all extra and not needed items in BIOS.
Can also add small heat sinks on the Mosfet circuits on the board.

Orn, that was just me taking a stab at humor more than anything else. I just forgot to add a "LOL".
As far as pin/no pin compatibility, that's where the processor adaptor (which would fit the specific type of processor) as stated above comes into play. Mating the processor to the MB via a socket adaptor (as far as pin/no pin processor type) I don't see as a big problem. Now getting the ...

It is very nice but I would wait for them to do the latest platform or Dragon at least . It doesn't look like to me that this case is good for you with its limiting cooling abilities .
