New build, CPU runs HOT

Lets do an experiment. Looking at your case you may not have adequate air flow. Try removing the side of the case and running your system as you normally do and see what you temps are...let me know.

Never said anything about buying a new PSU. I said and I quote your PC is running to hot and you need to work on your cooling. Its shutting down because its overheating. 4 pin molex to 3 pin fan adapters are a $1.99 item. This will allow for your CPU fan to work at full power.

Athlon II X3 435 Core Voltage
Published (2009-11-20 07:23:00)
Hi Thanks for looking at my post and the welcome. I've now got time to post a bit more info: I'm using the processor in a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H (rev. 2.0) board with FC BIOS. This BIOS revision is updated for "AGESA 3.3.2.4 for AM3 CPU" and supports some of the Athlon II processors but not the 435 specifically. The processor boots and works perfectly but the default CPU voltage is not correct. When I go into the BIOS it...

Also, trying downloading the Windows XP Dual-Core Optimizer patch, I've seen this fix similar problems with mult-core processors in Win XP. Bob

Yes, 50C is high for an idle temp.
Confirm if there is a sticker on the HSF....most likely not but it will also allow you to see how the TIM is spreading on the cpu.....i.e. did you use too much....too little....is it spreading to one side of the cpu and not the other.
Also.....well, can you tell us what your hardware setup is, to include the make/model of your case and how your case fans ...

Its 100% based on CPU code.
Does a phenom II CPU work in a AM2 board? Answer is yes absolutely. They were designed to be backward compatible.
But the question is, is there a bios update to offer up the support?
Is it possible to use the CPU with out the bios update?
Answer is yes and no. It may or may not work and bios settings would need to be set manually in bios.

The ram your has been tested on intel platforms, Patriot ram can be very picky on AMD DDR3 platforms I would suggest some mushkin,GSKILL, or OCZ

Go here Download Everest Ultimate . Check your message box for serial you can use to activate.
Go to Everest ultimate/file/preferences/logging
Pick things like
clocks for CPU/ram/gpu

First of all, welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't worry about either problem.
Just clean the CPU surface with 90% rubbing alcohol, then wipe it down with a clean, dry cloth.
And make sure there are no broken or bent pins on the CPU.
The pre-applied thermal paste on the HSF may have accidently touched something during handling.
And yes, the pre-applied thermal paste is normally hard, but gets ...

Is it possible - Yes
Will your board support such an upgrade - Check with the manufactures CPU support list and flash the bios to required version.
Is phenom compatible on a AM2 platform (limited to HTT 1.0 1000 Mhz 2000 Mhz active 2400 mt,s on am2 platform)- yes its fully cross compatible.
But as I said, its 100% based on bios support.
Given the fact that AM2+ boards start as low...
