Check also the motherboard manufacturer's CPU support list that the actual version of your X2 5000+ is supported, including the BIOS version.

Thanks, I got it, very happy with that cpu, running very cool with a little O/C. I may have to get that 550 black next. http://i863.photobucket.com/al...94/race301/AMD/AMD.jpg

Device manager/device in question/ properties download the drivers for your board off nvidia site. update the driver and select the INF your self for the SMU driver and install. quite strait forward.

AMD Dual Core + XP SP3

My DirectX games were running slow. 40 FPS ran at 32, 25 FPS ran at 21. Fix is here http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...owthread.php?t=81429. I had installed the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer back in May but after reading the above instructions I could see I hadn't done the Registry changes and this was the crucial bit. The Microsoft Hotfix mentioned in the article is not needed if you have XP SP3 installed. The download link to it in the article...

On my install of XP SP3 the fix is there but it was not enabled, so I had to change Throttle from 0 to 1. Problem I had was when fast forwarding high quality video at 3x normal speed it was dropping frames, setting throttle to 1 fixed it and made the system overall more responsive.

Everything else works great. There is bios updates out there like 3.10, but they say they are for XP OS. There is a 5.07 for Vista, but it does not work when I run the auto installer. Tells me not the right board or something. Must be for the A8M2N-LA Nodus board. All of the forums I check said the had good luck with the Windsor CPU on the older bios, however a bios update was required to run the Brisbane CPU. If nothing else I guess I will...

Yep, you can definitely run Windows 7; either the 32 or 64 bit verion. Just try to do a CLEAN install (you can do it with an upgrade DVD) to avoid problems when transitioning to the new OS.

Tried the Win7 64bit install with CnQ disabled in BIOS? As test could also try an install on IDE only, as a comparison. Perhaps give it a try with another power supply? Edited: 12/09/2009 at 01:46 PM by go_for
