I was keen to check out my new Ricor IAS rear shock somewhere with a few lumps and Michael (DR350) was interested in taking a look at the lower part of Cnut Hill so a plan was hatched and Mark (Africa Twin) and Tony (Adv virgin) on his DR650 decided to join in. So I met Tony in Waikane at 8.20 on Sunday morning and we headed through the Akatarawas to Upper Hut where we met the others and headed over the Rimutukas for a coffee and perv at Tppys...

Thanks for that. Normally I wouldn't worry too much, but since we need to be in Chch the same day and it's probably hard to get last minute accommodation in Hamner on the 31st.

This thread most probably wont be of any interest to anyone else.
I'm simply stringing together some existing posts relating to my regular riding area where I go most weekends with my kids. These all exist on kiwibiker. co.nz but the mods there have been deleting some of them as they are above the max 640x480 size...

Have a look at the south island page of my site http://www.advroutes.org.nz/
If you download and install the Garmin Communicator software you can upload the routes from the web page directly to your GPS unit via a USB connection.
A 512Mb card will hold all of the autorouting maps and all of the GTMaps Topomaps but a 1Gb is so cheap and you can record lots (more) of your own track ...

Anywhere in the North Island is twisty, it's motorcycle heaven so the car vs bike choice is really one of how you wish to travel. From Auckland you can traverse all the Coromandel roads and be back in Auckland in one day but it is obviously better to stay over night and take some time for relaxing on the beach, my suggestion is Whitianga.
