I found a couple of media blasting places near here. Probably the easiest solution. OK, maybe not the easiest. The easiest would be to ignore the old valve cover and move on. THis is after all just an ugly old motorcycle that I'm riding. Not some chrome toilet I'm customizing to sell to some idiot with more money than taste.

OK. So I have been thinking. If the canbus is shutting down the headlight because it isn't pulling enough juice then going to a 55w xenon from DMM Tuning might be the fix. On the other hand if the canbus is shutting down the headlight because it is sensing too much draw thent he 55w ballast would only make it worse.

I am kinda torn between the 41l Gobi in black, or the new Touratech Zega (old stlyle w/o plastic corners) 51l XL topcase. The wife needs a backrest when shes on, and I could use a place to lock up the lids and coat at work. Anyone have e\any experiance with the XL touratech?

Having had both the 1100gs and the twin spark I wouldn't replace anything unless it was worn out and in 98k mi. it's not. If you are looking for a project then go ahead, otherwise you are opening a can or worms. There are many more variables in what you want to do than just swapping parts. IMHO, unless you are a rocket mechanic, you will end up with a worse bike than you had when you started.

The leakage around the rubber boot sounds like a pinion seal. Mine did the same thing. I noticed a gathering of road dirt and dust around the boot. A new pinion seal and boot replaced by the dealer fixed it. When you have to worry is when the oil is from the left side of the final drive. There are several references to impending final drive bearing failures on this site that I learned from as ...

I've had one of my Smith & Wesson stainless pistols 'glass-bead blasted' and it looks great. Better IMO than the satin finish. But, that being said, and pondered the same question you ask yourself about the aluminum panniers, no easy answer. If walnut blasting is always available to you for 'touch-ups' (at no charge) then it should make sense. But, if it's a one-time pay for it then you will be ...
