I think a fantastic bike for you would be a Honda CB 500 or Suzuki GS 500, which are very similar.

Looks like the only 2 guys with direct knowledge say...forget the old stuff found on the computer and believe the 2 cops who "don't know the rules" and ignored the international drivers license. What the hell, take one anyway. AAA for $10-$15 and you get to look at the pic before and after the trip.

I would like to do a round trip this next summer, 2010, from Italy to Russia, up to Vladivostok if possible and then back through China. Out side of the build up areas the requirement is generally to stay at least 150 m from the nearest building and not on farmland or the like. Gravel roads in Norway.
